Produced to the almost same recipe as Herno`s excellent dry gin, their sweetened Old Tom sees the addition of a hint of extra Meadowsweet. This spirit leaves a floral sweetness combined with woody spice and a long-lasting taste of juniper. From browsing photos of Dala, the home of Hernö Gin, there can be few more picturesque locations to make gin. Fever-Tree Mediterranean was my favourite pairing but it’s my go-to tonic for most gins, so probably some bias there, on my part.

The sweetening of Old Tom lifts the floral notes, releases an array of juniper and makes it even smoother. Their flagship London Dry gin was released in 2012 and there are now several expressions in the range, including a navy strength and the focus of this review, an Old Tom.According to the legend, when a penny was placed in the cat’s mouth the gin was served through a tube hidden in one of the paws.
