About this deal

White Feather Hosta requires soil with good drainage to thrive. This plant is not tolerant of wet or poorly-drained soil conditions. If your soil is heavy clay, consider amending it with organic matter to improve drainage before planting.

I remember creating a summer pot one year that featured a large lemon cypress as the thriller. Then below was a large deep purple heuchera and a bright yellow and green ‘Whirlwind’ hosta and some bacopa and ivy spilling out. The hosta was large and made an impact as a filler plant. Alongside the deep purple heuchera and bright green cypress, it really popped. Strawberries Eggplant Kale Broccoli Cucumber Corn Melon Bell pepper Pepper Pumpkin Leek Radish Beetroot Salad Onion Fennel Carrot All vegetable seeds Or plant a tall variety, like ‘Sum and Substance’ in the middle of a container and use small wax begonias underneath such as Olympic White. The hosta will appear to rise up from the fluffy mound of flowers.Repotting is required when Hostas outgrow their pots. When first potting your plant make sure to estimate its full-grown size so it can flourish in peace. Repotting should be done in the spring when the new growth begins. Make sure not to use a pot too big, as they like being rootbound. Move your Hosta to a pot only one size bigger when repotting. Propagation Halycon has pointed blue leaves. Mouse ears have tiny little blue ear-shaped leaves. Dancing Queen features ruffled frilly edges. Praying hands has small narrow leaves that look like, well, praying hands. Curly fries’ foliage is long and wavy and almost looks like grass. Putting some of these different texture leaves into mixed pots has a stunning effect. Consider Plant Size Pay attention to the size of your hosta to help you decide which plants to plant with it or keep as a standalone plant. Hostas are large-leafed plants. When those leaves get damaged and destroyed it takes a long time for them to flush out new leaves. This depends on the variety, little leaf varieties will produce new leaves faster than those with large leaves. Thankfully hostas are pretty low maintenance. They are not the deadheading nightmare of some fussy container flowers. All they need is any broken or damaged leaves snipped off.

When you notice the lower leaves turning yellow and brown, or if you see any soft, brown, mushy decay, the plant has gotten infected by some fungal disease. White Feather Hosta is a stunning plant in the shade garden. Pair it with other interesting perennials such as Ostrich Fern, Astilbe, and Japanese Anemone. Pests affecting White Feather hosta They don’t need much fertilizer, but if you are growing them in the wrong soil or they aren’t thriving as they should then fertilizing is recommended. Hostas growing in a pot can be fed half-strength tomato fertilizer a couple of times during the year. Pruning When the tips turn brown and dry, you’ll know you have underwatered it. They cant tolerate standing water. The leaves would start to sag and turn yellow if you were to overwater them. Growing white feather Hosta in the ground will require watering once every three days, but only if the soil retains moisture. Light

This is a sign the conditions are too damp. Mildew thrives in dark wet stagnant areas. So to avoid this make sure you are not overwatering. When you do water it is also best to avoid spraying the foliage as much as possible. American Halo– The leaves of this plant are a deep, striking blue-green and have a thin, wavy cream edge. It grows to be 24 inches tall and 70 inches wide. June’ is one of my all time favorites. I love it in garden beds, but I think its intricate foliage would really stand out in containers. It has dark bluish green margins and a light green interior that looks like it has brush strokes of various shades of green. It is a work of art. Growing your Hosta in a pot will need more watering once every one or two days.
