About this deal

Invisible Britain is an anthology of portraits and testimonials from the grassroots, from the everyday man and woman who have been forced to ride the rollercoaster of austerity. I have distilled everything I know into Build the Invisible, an accessible guide that outlines my philosophy and shows how investing in yourself – building your invisible foundations – leads to a successful and fulfilling career.

But this book, while better than some of his recent stuff, is still not as good as the Alex Cross series or Patterson's other earlier works. I was getting very close to stopping reading his novels completely due to the poor books he has released lately under different guises. As the prologue comes to an end, the narrator explains where he is now in life living in the basement of a “white only” apartment complex. The book was shortlisted in the 2013 Artists’ Books of the Moment Award, Art Gallery of York University, Canada. The book took five years to complete with one year off for what Ellison termed an "ill-conceived short novel". Overall, it was one of my favorite Patterson books and I am looking forward to the second book – INVISIBLE – when my turn comes at the library.

In the essay "The World and the Jug", which is a response to Irving Howe's essay "Black Boys and Native Sons", which "pit[s] Ellison and [James] Baldwin against [Richard] Wright and then", as Ellison would say, "gives Wright the better argument", Ellison makes a fuller statement about the position he held about his book in the larger canon of work by an American who happens to be of African ancestry. If you’re diagnosed with cancer, your worries are our worries and we will move mountains to help you live life as fully as you can. Without any suspects, motives, weapons, or profiles to help them, the challenge seems almost impossible as the killer continues to outwit them at every step along the way. And, more importantly, the story had a certain fresh feeling to it, including a few good surprises, and a strong ending. Because of his odd behaviour, he becomes the talk of the village with many theorizing as to his origins. Action is something that we can all take, whether it be to look a homeless person in the eye and chat with them for a few minutes the next time we put a few coins in their palm, or making our environments more welcoming, or starting a community action group.

Finally, why is it that so many of those who would tell us the meaning of Negro life never bother to learn how varied it really is? Recunosc ca am stiut cine e criminalul înainte să ne fie dezvăluit, dar asta poate unde am citit atat de mult de la Patterson încât am ajuns sa i cunosc stilul.

The music was overpowering, the actor who played Marty/ Mary /Graham was so over dramatic I was embarrassed for him.
