About this deal

Near the dying English seaside town of Ilmarsh, local police detective Alec Nichols discovers sixteen horses’ heads on a farm, each buried with a single eye facing the low winter sun. Since January 2019, she hosts the BBC Radio 2 drivetime show, Monday–Friday 4pm–7pm (formerly 5pm–7pm).

Thrown by Sara Cox | Waterstones

Thrown centres around 4 women in a small village in England who join a pottery class in their local community centre and form bonds as their past and problems come to light. Travelling with him is his loyal bodyguard, Arent Hayes, who is determined to prove his friend innocent. I don't know if it's because I am also a similar age and a northerner (however, I didn't grow up on a small holding) but I really liked this book.

So if you're of the 70s or 80s, you're interested in Northern England at that time, or you're interested in farm tales, this could actually be an interesting book to read, even if you've never heard of Sara Cox. The chapters are short and the tone is cheery - even given the occasional traumatic episode - making for an undemanding (in the best way) interlude in the company of a charming hostess.

All the characters male and female had depth and realism and I felt emotionally invested in their storylines. The dilapidated community centre is no longer the beating heart of the estate that Becky remembers from her childhood.

Sarah says throughout the book that she was an utter daddy's girl, and you can see her idolising him as she grows up. Sara Cox says: “I’m so thrilled the show is back - I can’t wait to welcome everyone to our TV book club again as we delve between the covers of some fantastic books with some of my most favourite, witty and wise people. Within this series Sara Cox talks to the guests about their favourite books as well as a new book from 2021and a Booker backlist gem.
