Patterson know what happens when you continuously elect half insane MEN to head the USA, he knows so well, he decided o release this book.Add some fascinating historical tidbits to this action-packed political thriller and it’s a recipe for a fun read. I've never read anything from James Patterson and knew he was very popular so I figured I'll give it a try. However, President Barrett is clear that nothing will stand in his way of keeping the Chinese and Russians in his crosshairs, wanting them to act whenever and wherever he desires, sure that it will ensure there is no second guessing his plans fo the coming months and years.

But with the premise comes a somewhat predictable scenario of ensuing events and the final conclusion. I don't know, probably because I did actually finish it, just to see what happens when a President goes insane.The situation is ideal for a paranoid leader hearing voices urging him to fulfill his messianic destiny. A new Director of the CIA and some high-ranking congressional authorities begin to wonder what steps could be taken to wrest control away from this reckless president, but with an incapacitated vice-president and the Speaker of the House in her own hot water over a scandal, there is no clear successor, even though legislation is in place for such measures.

He and his writing partner for this one, Brendan DuBois have written quite the summer potboiler that includes a mix of Tom Clancy espionage, the television show Scandal political intrigue, and David Baldacci layered suspense. The narrative, while slow at times, proves to move things along and offers up scary insights of what could be, while hinting at the train wreck that might have been under Trump (making mention of it throughout). It is almost like I have walked the same steps as his characters without all the exciting things that happen to them. A volcanic eruption is quite another, for, as the journalist who does a framing voice-over narration for Brooks’ latest puts it, when Mount Rainier popped its cork, “it was the psychological aspect, the hyperbole-fueled hysteria that had ended up killing the most people. In short, this is a thriller that poses the terrifying question: What if we had a president who was like Trump but competent?He has written many other number one bestsellers including collaborations with President Bill Clinton and Dolly Parton, stand-alone thrillers and non-fiction.
