About this deal

As typical with many TN Film screens the default setup leaves a lot to be desired, but can be corrected reasonably well through the OSD at least. Fast-moving action and dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the effects of ghosting. You will see from our calibration settings listed in the table above that we switched to the ‘scenery’ mode. For a VA panel it’s fast and reliable in the upper refresh rate range, delivering decent response times and frame rates alongside the high contrast and deep blacks that this technology offers.

The AMD FreeSync Technology ensures that the GPU’s and monitor’s refresh rates are synchronised, which provides a smooth, tear free gaming experience. We spotted an issue though in the default ‘Racing’ preset mode where some colours didn’t appear right. Adjust grey levels for better picture detail and brighten dark areas or sink them back into blackness on the fly, without affecting the rest of the display. Switch settings between in-built presets for FPS, racing, or RTS games, or customise your own ideal conditions and save them.Like the smaller model we did find the OSD menu to be quite sluggish, especially at lower refresh rates, and a bit tricky to navigate although there’s plenty of settings. FreeSync Premium ensures a high refresh rate of at least 120Hz, as well as low framerate compensation for AMD graphics cards. The AMD FreeSync Premium features a refresh rate of minimum 120Hz, decreasing blur and sharpening the picture for a more life-like experience.

It keeps the same 1920 x 1080 resolution and so text looks bigger than on the smaller version, but the added screen size can help improve the feeling of immersion in games, and for multimedia as well. They both behave the same in terms of strobe length and frequency, but the Turbo mode looks slightly better in practice we felt. MBR mode was again limited unfortunately and hampered a bit by the wide gamut backlight and some inflexibility in control. Having tested the 24G2U first, this larger 27″ version felt very similar, almost identical in fact in performance, features and specs. You will appreciate the low input lag if you’re looking for the best quality visuals in fast paced games.
