About this deal

Put up the inner tent. This is also very easy as it toggles into loops inside the tent, with the apex colour coded. Start with that one, attached the corner clips, and toggle the rest.

Spot the semi-circular opening close to the ground in the picture. That's an air vent that can be opened, enabling good airflow through the tent and out through the vents above the bedroom area. (It comes with a bug screen built-in). We definitely have problems putting it up and getting it to zip up once erected and are unsure why but hopefully the more we use it the easier it will be and hopefully we can work out what we are doing wrong but we don't believe it is a design fault, I'm pretty sure it is us.Observe also that this is a very tall tent, its peak height in the living room is 78.74 inches (200 cm). So you have a stand-up height in the bigger part of the tent. Ventilation Take the guy lines from each end and peg into the ground to hold the ends up. These can be re-pegged later. We have invested in a footprint and highly recommend the canopy which with a windbreak along the sides acts as an extension to the tent. The Coastline range has some other useful accessories such as the extended porch and the side porch. You also have a small zipped opening (at the bottom near the first tent pool) to run a power lead for an electric hook-up if you need it (such as for running a heater if you are camping in the cooler seasons). As we have the 6 person version we didn't use the tent extension (as there is a bedroom in the way of that tent opening). These extensions are very good and zip right onto the tent. You may want to get some windbreaks though to prevent wind and horizontal rain entering into the tent. However, I would say this - the instructions are not clear on the tent about how to erect it, but it's such a basic setup you would struggle to find somebody unable to work it out. Bought this tent as our first family tent with 2 young kids (1 and 3) after a lot of research. We had it for 2 years and used it about 6 times for long weekends at the beach. I loved it, solid, sturdy and very straightforward to put up. We never used the sleeping area divider, we were able to fit a double airbed, single airbed and a travel cot in. It didnt leave much room to move but what do you expect. Really liked the zip up windows, very tidy and practical. We got the Coleman carpet in the 2nd year, made a huge difference to the comfort levels in the tent. The Coleman Lakeside 4 is very similar in layout but in the cabin style of tent. It doesn't have the porch and extension options. There are only 2 of us & it's perfect in size and layout for us. The canopy gives a sheltered outdoor area. Since taking the photo we have bought a Coleman windshield and it turns the area into a lovely outdoor room. We also have a carpet in the living area & have 2 large picnic rugs in the bedroom area that fit the separate compartments exactly or touch edges to provide through carpet when the divider is removed to give one area. We tend to use the inner tent as one area as we can get our camp beds in, 1 on each side, creating an area to stand & dress. It also enables us to have a camping cupboard in the bedroom area for clothes. We love the roll down windows. We don't have the water ingress problem that some report as our 2011 model has a zip along the bottom of the front door. The inner tent is well separated from the shell, there is a wide gap for air circulation, you can realize this from the floor plan below. If it took an hour to put up on your own, that's because this is a 4 man tent, so most likely it's made to be put up by two people at least. You can do it on your own but it's tough because of that reason. Even so, it's not as tough to put up on your own as some of the 2 man's I've had in the past. From the picture you see also its solid windows, you have them five in total. Note that some of them have a clever self-rolling design, this includes some sort of dual steel straps integrated into the zippered panels. They automatically roll together with the panels when you unzip them. One of the windows is shown in the picture, those self-rolling straps are partly visible on the sides of the panel: Self-rolling panels.

Pitching the tent is very easy. I often put up the 6 man version single-handed in the wind. A tip is to leave the door open when putting away as it will reduce the vacuum effect the next time you put it up. As for the door/water blowing in and it being hard to close from inside I had no problems. The tent has 3 loops on the bottom of the door (one at either side and one in the middle) which you can easily reach from inside the tent when the door is fully zipped down. Just get a small sized peg and push it in with your hand and the door will be secure with enough ventilation to keep down condensation. There is also a lip around the base of the groundsheet which keeps water out. It looks very simple from outside, but the tent is a 3-room structure and it is also a hybrid double wall and single wall. This means that you have a shell tent, and an inner tent that represents the sleeping area. So this sleeping area is the double-wall part while the large living room is under the shell. The bedrooms are arranged next to one another. The divider between the two areas can be unzipped. We find this useful if you need to comfort a young child in the night as you don't need to get out of one sleeping area and into another. The shell fabric is a 185T polyester with 3000 mm PU coating and all seams are taped. The inner tent is a breathable polyester and no-see-um mesh. The groundsheet is polyethylene, welded and fully sealed, the same material in the shell and in the inner tent. These are fire retardant materials.
