I bought a Philips Hue sensor and it updates every 10 seconds, but it has a somewhat short range and little viewing angle. There are plenty of ways to do this. If you’ve got smart lighting installed, then an open/close sensor can be used to trigger that. If not, you can use the same sensor to toggle a smart plug.
