About this deal

We’re seeing an increasing number of IPS panels, as the price of this high-end LCD technology seems to be falling into consumer territory. Unlike last month’s Hazro HZ27WC, Dell’s U2412M is aimed at a business market, which might excuse the fact that it’s twice the price of a budget 24in monitor. You do get a lot for your money, though.

Comfort is key: Tilt, swivel, pivot and adjust the height of your monitor to a maximum of 150mm because you should be comfortable while you work. should be fine here with the lower range available. A setting of around 26% should offer you a luminance of ~ 120 cd/m 2. The monitor has been measured and calibrated with a LaCie Blue Eye Pro. We also examine the monitor with the help of our monitorTest. And finally we test the monitor in games, movies etc.

Dell goes easy on our eyes with both screen and price

So, let us move on to our practical tests. In the following sections I will examine Dell U2412M with our stress tests in movies, games and such, as well as with our self-developed monitorTest software. I will also include comparisons to Dell’s current U2410 monitor. Colors are not 100 % accurate and slightly too reddish (because of too low color temperature). Gamma rises from 2.05 in the dark tones to 2.23 in the bright tones, meaning that dark colors are slightly too dark. All in all Dell U2412M is a great addition to Dell’s line-up of UltraSharp PC monitors. However, we do not view it as an improvement over the current U2410, and Dell also tells us that U2410 will function as a step-up model in the future. If you can live without HDMI and do not require the wide gamut panel, I think U2412M is a great value for money monitor and I therefore award it with our Highly Recommended Award. Viewing angle: The optimal viewing angle for a monitor is usually directly in front, about a quarter of the screen's distance down from the top. At this angle, you're viewing colors as the manufacturer intended. Most monitors aren't designed to be viewed at any other angle. Depending on its panel type, picture quality at non-optimal angles varies. Most monitors use TN panels, which get overly bright or overly dark in parts of the screen when not viewed from optimal angles.

Try different Color Preset Settings in Color Settings OSD. Adjust R/G/B value in Color Settings OSD if the Color Management is turned Off. Photos: When looking at faces and light-colored hair, in the Standard preset the U2412m's colors sometimes dipped ever so slightly into a greenish hue, but the bright colors of clothing and environments popped with vibrancy. The U2412m uses an E-IPS panel, which provides it a wider-than-TN viewing angle that fails to match viewing angles seen on higher-end IPS panels. the colour temperature remains similar to the 'standard' mode at ~6500k. The dynamic contrast ratio ismoderate. The maximum deviations from the central measurement of 120 cd/m 2 were as low as 100 cd/m 2 Although the pop-up window disappears during writing, if you eject your media while the LED is still blinking, then you cannot complete your action on the media.
