About this deal

The prosecution also relied on CCTV evidence of the movements of Matthews and Hoare on the day Watts was last seen alive, and in the days which followed. [2] On 19 February 2015, before going to Crown Hill, they were seen in a Tesco supermarket buying batteries, which were allegedly needed for stun guns which they intended to use in the kidnap. [20] Footage from the day after Watts was killed showed Matthews buying the circular saw that was used to dismember her body, and between 20 and 22 February, he and Hoare were captured shopping for cleaning products which it was said they required to clean the bathroom where the dismemberment took place. [22] DNA linked both Matthews and Hoare to items that were found in the shed alongside the remains, [24] and an expert was called to give evidence who said it would be "easier" to carry out the dismemberment if more than one person was involved. [25] Upon arrival at the location, they discovered a man with various injuries who, sadly, could not be saved despite the efforts of the ambulance crew who administered treatment and tried their best to save the man's life. The solution to the mystery turned out to be simple: the 25-year-old landscape architect was killed by her neighbour, the Dutch-born engineer Vincent Tabak. Dean had a daughter, who was two-years-old at the time, and his mother expressed sorrow that she would grow up without a father. After the trial it emerged that pornographic images of children had been found on Tabak's laptop. [112] In December 2013, the Crown Prosecution Service announced that he would be prosecuted for possessing the images. [113] [114] On 2 March 2015, Tabak pleaded guilty to possessing more than 100 indecent images of children, and was sentenced to 10 months in prison, to run concurrently with his existing life sentence for murder. Joanna Clare Yeates (19 April 1985– 17 December 2010) was a landscape architect from Ampfield, Hampshire, England, who went missing from the flat she shared with her partner, in a large house in Clifton, Bristol, on 17 December 2010 after an evening out with colleagues. Following a highly publicised appeal for information on her whereabouts and intensive police enquiries, her body was discovered on 25 December 2010 in Failand, North Somerset. A post-mortem examination determined that she had been strangled.

Vincent Tabak, a 32-year-old Dutch architectural engineer and the occupant of a third flat in the building, was arrested on 20 January 2011. Media attention at the time centred on the filming of a re-enactment of her disappearance for the BBC's programme Crimewatch. After two days of questioning, Tabak was charged on 22 January 2011 with Yeates's murder. On 5 May, he pleaded guilty to Yeates's manslaughter, but denied murdering her. His trial started on 4 October; he was found guilty of murder on 28 October, and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years. While his identity is not yet formally confirmed, his immediate family are aware and our hearts go out to them in their loss. They will now be supported by specially-trained officers.
