About this deal

It’s really up to you what type of apples you use. Granny Smiths are always fantastic in baked goodies, but if you have some Pink Lady or Jazz lying around, they’re fine too. If you’re all out of fresh ones, you can always use tinned apple slices. Roll out the remaining dough, drape it over the rolling pin and lift it over the apples, or roll out the dough on baking paper, then flip it onto the apples and peel the paper away. Tidy up the edges with dampened fingers. Brush the top with water and sprinkle with the caster sugar.

With the cops closing in, Gina has to figure out who killed the head chef and save her uncle’s pizza parlor before it’s too late. Set the flan tin on a heatproof surface. Put the baking sheet into the oven to heat up, and reduce the oven temperature to 180°C/350°F/gas 4. Step 3 - While the base is baking mix the apples and the sugar together. Then whisk the sour cream, sugar and egg together and set aside. When the base is cooked spread the sweetened apples on top of the cooked base. To make the pastry, sift the flour, salt and sugar into a mixing bowl. Add the pieces of butter and toss in the flour so they are lightly coated, then gently rub the butter into the flour until the mixture looks like fine crumbs. Add the egg yolk and water and stir into the crumbs with a round-bladed knife to make a firm dough. If there are dry crumbs, work in more cold water a teaspoon at a time. Shape the dough into a flat disc, wrap in clingfilm and chill for 20 minutes. And don’t forget a recipe like the one contributed below by one of our fabulous MoM Members is totally freezable – a massive win if you like to bake things ahead of time. So tell me Dear Reader, have you ever had a flood in your house? Do you like apple slices? Do you like apples? Apple cakes are not uncommon, you’ll find variations of it all around the globe; British, American, German and Polish, just to name a few. Essentially, apples are sliced or diced and added to a cake batter and baked. Definitely something tart. My favourite is the big old Bramley, Britain’s most popular cooking apple. It falls apart rather easily when cooked, and so adds a soft, melting texture to the cake.

To prepare apple filling, add apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and fresh lemon zest to a large mixing bowl. Stir until apples are coated. Pour apples over crust and spread out into one even layer. The sour cream layer Once your easy apple slice has baked until golden and cooked through, leave it to cool in the tin then slice into large pieces. Serve your apple slice just as it is or with whipped cream. You could even have it as a dessert and serve it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean. Eggless cakes always need a little longer than you think. The hissing noise was our hot water tank leaking and steam was rising from the kitchen floor. Water was rapidly flooding into the lounge room. The recipe below calls for a small amount of preparation, some stove-top simmering and baking. Preparing and combining the ingredients takes less than 15 minutes and the oven does the rest of the work.Put the tin of pie apples into a bowl. Add the flour and spices and mix well. Spoon the apple mix over the baked base. The apple will only just cover the base, move it around with a spoon until you have a more or less even covering. The recipe here is loosely based on one I found in my mother-in-law’s old cookbook. Shortly after she got married, she went for cooking classes, as I suppose, is not uncommon in those days. It’s filled with so many old style recipes, both British and European. During your exploration, take a closer look at the stem using a magnifying glass. Its amazing how much detail makes up such a small part of an apple! Calyx Yummo!! Who would have thought sour cream and apple could taste so yummm…Moorish!!. Easy to make, tastes great. Thanks this would be my go to dessert recipe now! Depending on how you cut open the apple, will determine how the core looks. Slicing an apple in half horizontally, will leave you will a star shaped center. A fun activity is to use the core as a stamp for an apple painting activity. Seeds

Before you cut into the apple, observe the outside. If possible, compare a few different apples to see how they are similar and different. Kids can identify many of the parts of an apple including the peel, stem, and calyx without cutting an apple open. Cutting Open the Apple Do you have a favorite recipe your kids love to make? Or a recipe your kids ask you to make again and again? Share it with us! Add the dry ingredients for the base except for the sugar to a bowl and whisk to mix. In a seperate bowl cream the room temperature butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. She told me she stopped cooking around the time they moved south (when my husband was about 8, maybe), because the village didn’t do gas for cookers. She hates electric cookers and so, she stopped cooking! I suppose that’s as good an excuse as any!

Crumble the rest of the base mix over the apple. Bake for a further twenty-five minutes until the top is golden and crunchy.
