About this deal

I don’t like horror films but I love scary books and this one is gloriously creepy in all the best ways. It features some genuinely frightening moments and had me on the edge of my seat. I raced through this book in one go as I was absolutely gripped by the fast pace and tense action. Crap. Juniper’s reflexes were dulled this early in the morning. Two hours (and three cups of coffee) from now, she’d never have let her mother see this envelope. But now she was trapped, and she couldn’t very well shred the thing in front of her mom. She’d have to play this just right. But the ending was still good. We find out why x is doing all this. Why they have done it for so long. And yes, I don’t approve, but I cannot help to feel a bit of the heartstrings being tugged. I also loved that we get a bit after all the scary bits. See how Niamh is doing and what is next for her. I also loved that surprise bit about Geoff and who his partner was. Oh my! Couple goals indeed. XD This is a real cat and mouse type of read, throw in a paranormal element and you've got yourself a fantastically terrifying thriller. I’m not sure about the timing of the plot - I only realised at the end that Niamh had been in London for 6 weeks when I thought she had only been there for about 3!

This money would be a big deal for us,” her mother broke in softly. “Your father could use the good news.” Lots of the story is not realistic, so if that's what you are after, then this is not the read for you. But, there is a lot of dramatic scenes and dramatic lines, so if you love that, then you can go for this book. It's been my quest since the 90s to find books that read like Point Horror. Last One to Die does exactly that but with a fresh and modern voice. I'm quite hard to scare and it got me on more than one occasion! The horror is balanced out with world building, characterisation and lighter moments. Chelsea Pitcher is able to do this by placing them in the perfect situation to build tension and by having different parts of the book dedicated to following them and the struggles they deal with individually. Through this they cease to feel two dimensional, and more like the perfect players in a deadly game. The concept of a group of teens being invited to a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater type event was a great idea but the execution was just not there. Everyone keeps comparing this to the infamous I Know What You Did Last Summer movie but this read more like a really bad generic C-list movie rip off of. Last One to Die was a fun and easy read. I really liked the combination of Supernatural/Murder-Mystery, with a hint of romance. Five teens are invited to a murder-mystery evening at an old house. The prize for the one who solves the puzzle is a valuable scholarship. They all want it, but none of them expects to have to contend with the mysterious Ringmaster.

I wish I had done more research as I actually didn't realise this was a YA thriller and I am normally let down by those - they seem to be romance driven and just not very good, in my opinion. The language was sometimes too lyrical and flowery for the genre and it can sometimes be a little... cringe-y. Except this book is neither of those things. Even if you stripped “Clue” of it’s brilliant mystery and memorable characters, “This Lie Will Kill You” wouldn’t even come close. Like I said, it's a very familiar theme, but if it's done well, then it's done well, and I will always try to give credit where it's due. Chelsea Pitcher deserves that credit.I knew nothing about this other than it was a murder mystery that promised to have great twists and turns Well, I’m still waiting for all of that to happen because they sure were not in this book. But that last part… I am sorry, so far the book was fantastic, awesome, WOW, but then you decided to add the little sister in the mix? While SHE FREAKING KNEW that things just werent going right? What is up with that? It just didn’t make sense, it was dumb. I am sorry. But I would have rather seen our trio fix things instead of this. Parker Addison is the school’s golden boy. He’s rich, good looking, everyone’s dream friend. But he’s also jealous and controlling, and obsessed with Ruby, even though she doesn’t want him as a boyfriend again. Brett Carmichael comes from a struggling family, too. His father was once a professional boxer, but now his hopes for a bright future have faded and it’s down to Brett to succeed where his father failed. Brett’s also Parker’s wingman and would do anything for him. Gavin Moon is the outsider, never part of the popular in-crowd at Fallen Oaks, despite being a talented writer and musician. With trembling hands, she typed out the message, Did you submit me for the Burning Embers Scholarship? Ruby’s number was still in her phone. She couldn’t bring herself to erase it, which was definitely ironic, considering the thing she’d erased from Ruby’s life.

Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri... The writing was very bad. But just the second half, because it was filled with the ugliest, most absurd and incomprehensible metaphors, which I swear made me want to carve my eyes out and smash my Kindle. Of course not.” Juniper swallowed, her chest tightening. “I just don’t understand who would submit me for this sort of thing. I’m the world’s worst actress.” I’ll be trying my hand at a book review today that will let you in on my thoughts without spoiling it for anyone in case you fancy reading it. So no spoilers today.Mom, it’s a scam. Real scholarship offers don’t sound like this.” She’d never even heard of the Burning Embers Scholarship. She’d never heard of it, and she didn’t like the sound of it. It has it's very excellent creepy moments to give the author due, porcelain dolls and suchlike but those flashes of brilliance got lost amongst the idiotic and very uninteresting characters. Ruby needed to be loved. Maybe it was wrong, maybe she was supposed to love herself, the rest of the world be damned, but she couldn't stop waiting to be welcomed into the universe." The storyline echoes that of the Fear Street and Point Horror novels that I grew up on. Simple, but effective storytelling.

These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community. I have to say that this book was able to set the mood and ambiance of a mystery that will hook you, but unfortunately, it was unable to deliver it's promise. I have to say that there were parts of this that I liked, but the cliche, cheesy, and unconnected parts outnumbered the things that I enjoyed. Its not much of a mystery (its pretty easy to figure out who dunnit), but there was a twist at the end that I was not expecting. My feelings towards this book are mixed. I didn’t like like it, but I found it amusing; the idea even though unoriginal was something I liked but the execution left a lot to be desired. The writing was trying to be poetic which was too much so it ended up being pretentious. I mean who, WHO? starts slow dancing in the middle of a school hall with a guy they see for the first time in their life?Last One to Die by Cynthia Murphy is the first book I read this year, and my first 5 star as well. I am now confident that 2021 won’t be that bad. I knew I was going to enjoy it, I just didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. Huge thank you yo Kaleidoscope Tours and Scholastic Press, for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for my review. You climb to the roof with a pitchfork in your hands. You summon the lightning. You chase the storm.” I love a bonkers plot line and this was one. It alludes a few times to film YA horrors and I could totally see this up there with them. It was really easy to imagine this cinematically. It's quite tense as you can imagine, taking place in one evening the pace is fast going and doesn't let up from the minute they all arrive at the mansion. Each character is easily identifiable and as each reveals their innermost secrets you learn to either like them or hate them more.
