The RugBuddy mimics underfloor heating where you are sitting, is hidden out of the way even when in use, and only costs a few pence an hour to run. A RugBuddy under desk heater - under the rug or mat your desk stands on - provides a comfortable, economical, and discreet way to keep you warm. It's a 'Personal Workspace Heater', in other words.

Underlay is strongly recommended in all situations and essential on hard floors such as tiles, wood, laminate, and vinyl. Read the reasons why here. The heating wires are then connected to your mains supply. The system will also include a sensor to help regulate the temperature. You can then use a thermostat to control the temperature and pre-set the system to turn on or off.

Using a RugBuddy often means you can turn down, or even turn off, your central heating. One of the main reasons people buy area rugs is to keep their feet warm. Nobody wants to step out of bed and directly onto cold hardwood. The same is true for walking around in any room, or any solid flooring surface. A rug just doesn’t feel as cold underfoot as solid materials. This is normally effective, but what if your floors are truly frigid? When I arrive in the morning, the temperature in my office is anywhere between zero to five degrees. I turn on my RugBuddy and my oil filled radiator. After 45 minutes the air is at 20 degrees. I turn the radiator off and leave my RugBuddy on for the rest of the day, as that is all I need. This is not only a cost effective way to heat my garden office but it is great to be able to sit at my desk and warm my feet! It’s economical too. This is because you don’t have to have high air temperatures to feel comfortably warm with radiant heat. If you think of the warmth you feel moving from shade into strong sunlight on a crisp winter’s day, you’ll know what I mean!

The majority (65%) of people we spoke to with electric underfloor heating had it installed in just one room, most commonly in a bathroom (64%), followed by the kitchen (34%)*. How do you install electric underfloor heating? The foot warmer will heat you more effectively, using up to 90% less energy than other electric heaters on the market. The mat heater delivers a pleasant radiant warmth from directly below where you are sitting or standing. William was very helpful, discussing with me how best to use a RugBuddy on the type of floor we have (wood on top of a concrete base) and what size Rug Buddy and underlay would be best for the space I had and how we were going to use it. Occasionally, on really cold, un-insulated, floors, customers say they get best results by using an insulating underlay. Which System is Best for My Floor Finish?

Programmable thermostats - these allow you to select when you want the underfloor heating to turn on and off, and the temperature you want it at (you may want different temperatures for different times of day, for example).

The solution to many of the woes described above is simple: deliver radiant and conductive heat where needed. The foot mat heater achieves this by silently heating you and a small area around you. It has an in-built thermostat to regulate temperature and prevent overheating. Space heaters are not meant to be used as primary heating units. The same can be said of RugBuddy. While you will love the warmth that radiates from the tips of your toes to the top of your nose, you should not plan to heat an entire room with one RugBuddy. However, smaller rooms may be nicely heated if much of the room is covered and the door remains closed. The largest RugBuddy is 63" x 93", which is about the size of a 5.5' x 8' area rug. Of course, smaller options are offered for use under any bath mat, welcome mat, kitchen carpet and more.
