About this deal

Summer follows with a deeper and less crisp green with the warmth of Geranium and very soft floral touches supporting the green pine elephant in the room. The florals warm up the green a bit.

The opening has a touch of the loo cleaner/air freshener combo about it. But after a couple of minutes it settles down and the pine and fir notes become history. As for the performance, here I think it is going well. It is powerful, especially at the start. Coarse and squeaky. I think that much more than the "Aventus" itself and even the unbearable (for my taste) "Club de Nuit Intense", which is the one that has reminded me the most, for that squeaky look. In the cardboard, although it has lost strength, I still smell it 24 hours later. Loewe have for a long time impressed me with solid quality and reasonable prices. They are really good on aromatic flavors, and this is their best.

What Loewe did here was to take the concept of Loewe pour homme, strengthen and improve the aromatics and change the base to more chypre (oakmoss and tremoss) and less fougere. My bottle of Esencia Loewe is nearly full simply because it's not my vibe. This is no comment on the quality of the fragrance; it's an interesting scent which evolves in an equally interesting manner. I do not understand the comparison to Polo other than the color scheme of the original bottle. Both fragrances transport me to lush-damp forest, but they do it in very different ways. Polo is the scent of forest floor in late Autumn whereas this is the scent of winter air amongst high altitude evergreens. Polo is dense whereas this is much lighter in structure and feel.

Well, to my nose this is a homage to the art of classic chypre perfumery. Light, airy, very complex olfactive profile. Lixeton, Patchouli raw materials together with Oakmoss ones like Evernyl were selected beautifully. The dry down is slightly more powdery, it gives these floral nuances. Lily of the valley raw materials (Magnolan, Liliestralis) are quite important in perfumery, because they give the cleanness and softness, they help to smooth the formulation together with indispensable white musks like Muscone, Ethylene Brassylete, Ambrettolide or Galaxolide, Nitro-Musks. I believe, this is built upon Hedione and clean White Musks together with Oakmoss and Patchouli mentioned before. The opening is really nice, slightly more sharp. Bergamot, Citronellol..beautifully selected naturals supported by Linalool, I believe. Overall, naturals are very nicely blended in this, you can surely feel the lightness, smoothness, natural facets in the smell. But there is something more sharp in the opening, that inherence the chypre qualities, maybe raw materials like Lixeton which gives woody aspects, sharpness, even metallic qualities. Do I like it, yes. This is phenomenal perfumery done really well. Extremely masculine, elegant and classic perfumery that is rather more chypre than fougere, to my nose of course. I am personally emotionally connected with both families, so this perfume speaks to my soul. Very pleasant smell though nothing ground breaking even for someone not so experienced like me. Unfortunately, performance is poor on my skin and at €75 for 50ml or €150/ 100ml I'd rather look at other options until I find it (heavily) discounted. Old Spice and Tabac are examples of porcelain bottles still being produced....as iconic as those scents. I know Procter&Gamble changed the porcelain bottle of Old Spice to plastic but Mäurer & Wirtz didn't for Tabac.

The first spray vaults us to great heights (think leafy green tree tops) with a smooth lavender and a beautiful pine note, some tarragon and petitgrain and the smallest bit of basil. The extra fresh and herbal opening gives way to a spicy mid that gets slightly soapy.(that nutmeg note is so good!) The florals float in with a nice rose and jasmine that get a minty fresh push from the geranium. The base runs sweet and slightly earthy with some tonka, vetiver and patchouli. As for the dry down, imagine an artisanal shaving soap that was kissed with the slightest bit of incense. This is standard Loewe: rich, bold and beautiful. I was sitting at a terrace here in Spain, 9pm having tapas. We were the last table in the terrace, nobody next to us. Don't get me wrong, this fragrance is a take on Aventus, but it is managing to project a similar scent with different notes that are easy to peak on if you bother. It is darker and not smoky, yet still reminds you of that aventus. Inspite of the four notes listed here, this still smells like Aventus (the OG or the cologne, don't really know or care)
