Si esto ocurre y se da una intensidad de visualización alta durante mucho tiempo, estos paneles OLED retendrán la imagen durante algunos segundos, lo que es como una imagen fantasma que desaparece. Si el usuario perpetúa esta mala praxis durante muchos días, al cabo del tiempo pueden generarse desgastes en estas zonas que provocan «quemados de imagen» que no desaparecen. Esto no está cubierto por la garantía, ya que es debido a un uso irresponsable del televisor. Para evitarlo basta con apagar el televisor cuando no se esté utilizando y tratar de evitar contenidos con imágenes estáticas durante muchas horas.
