About this deal

This stunning memoir goes through the highs and lows of Sally’s life through text and photography, which gives the reader a look into this phenomenal woman’s life. Given the author is revisiting events with the benefit of hindsight, it is remarkable how tolerant and forgiving she is regarding predatory male behaviour in the music industry. This is not a book for the #metoo generation ! The song 'Fat Bottomed Girls' has a lovely four part harmony, doesn't it? I don't think there's any deep meaning in it, unless you want to say it means beauty is only skin deep or whatever. She had spent her childhood out of the limelight on a farm in Wiltshire: “ I was always a tomboy and I guess bossy as the eldestshe says to the Telegraph, also revealing that it was very difficult for her to resist the lure of the big city. At 16, before Norland, she had gone to London to work in the dressing room of the legendary Marquee Club in Soho, where she saw the best bands live: “ Jimi Hendrix of Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton“, says. I marveled at how much she moved around, renting or selling apartments and cottages as her work situations evolved. She also worked for various charity entities setting up events, eventually starting her own event planning company. She even sat side by side with Princess Diana for some charity events, with some down to earth conversations to share, as well as photos of them together. Sally also collaborated with iconic Hollywood actor Paul Newman to utilize proceeds from his "Newman's Own" brand to funnel into UK charities.

However, she also found joy in her role, describing the band as a "close-knit family on tour" and remembering the "bear hugs" she received from the group. Luke from Manchester, EnglandYeah, Brian May wrote this... Freddie couldn't have - It would have been called Fat Bottomed Boys if he didNow retired, Sally Arnold lives in Totnes, Devon and likes to ‘ draw and walk”, although she has not cut herself off from her old life. “ I still talk to Allen, who must be almost 80 now. We always talk about Jade. I adored her. I’m on the phone with Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd…Reminiscing about those we’ve lost“, says.

We lived in Bel Air mansions, stayed in the best hotels, flew private jets, and received extravagant gifts from the bands," she writes. "It was certainly a life that was envied by many." She sustained her lifelong love of classical music, singing with the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Chorus, and as Concert Manager for Classic FM, along with her passion for travel. This included a pioneering trip to China by train in 1973.

Sally Arnold is a remarkable woman to be able to recall all her memories and capture each of the eras mentioned. Even though it’s a completely different lifestyle to most if not all people, I could picture all her memories clearly in my own head. Growing up in the swinging sixties and working through the turbulent 70’s, the names mentioned that she’s either met, worked for, worked with or dated is truly phenomenal. This book was like a who’s who of the celebrity world through one woman’s life. With her Norland and National Nursery Examination Board she got her first job working for a famous jazz singer and actress. Through the years Sally has met and worked with royals – from Prince Charles and Princess Diana to the late Duke of Edinburgh – Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, world leaders such as Mikhail Gorbachev and Chou En-lai, and great musicians such as Anne-Sophie Mutter. She now lives in Devon. I don’t think anyone had been particularly thoughtful before. Everything I did was for the good of the tour and I was also there for them. When Allen Collins [from Lynyrd Skynyrd] missed the birth of his first baby, he was heartbroken so I had him sobbing on my shoulder.”

The book is well written and held my interest throughout so I would definitely recommend that you go and give it a read. Voodoocat from Zimbabwe, United StatesLol, this isn't a sexist song. It's explaining that large girls are just as sexy (if not sexier)!! Bridget from CoDon't know why, but once toward the end of history class our teacher was talking, and with a part of a reaction video where one girl commented on this song in mind, I commented, "Queen's Jazz album!" He agreed. Still don't know why I said that.I am grateful to NetGalley for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. She opens up about the 3 am phone calls she received and the stoned 'episodes' she encountered while on tour. However, it wasn't all chaos and craziness. Arnold also shares the luxurious lifestyle that came with the job.

Exceeding the boundaries was never a problem, except once” during the Stones’ European tour in 1976. He was a stupid boy, a roadie, who could have invited me for a drink or a meal, and instead threw himself into an elevator». A plane tragedy changed her life Eric from St Paul Mn UsaLike another song about big butts (recorded in the 90s by Sir Mix-a-lot); this song still gets a LOT of airplay and requests at wedding receptions, parties, and bars. ironically, skinny girls like both songs too.The fact it was a man’s world she was living and working in (and some under the influence more than others) was part of the ride. “I loved it,” she says. “In fact, one thing I miss is the big bear hugs. We were such a close-knit family on tour.”
