About this deal

I’m super into the idea of bulk shopping made simple, so I love that the giant box of Who Gives A Crap came straight to my door. No more late night Target runs. I’m also 8 months pregnant and anything that can make my life a little easier, and reduce heavy lifting, is much appreciated.” However, while Alexander says Who Gives A Crap’s toilet paper is on par if not better than many of its competitors that use virgin pulp, he knows there is still a section of the market that is used to the most premium toilet paper and won’t want to give that up. “What we’ve done to account for that consumer is look for an alternative fiber that was better for the environment but also has the same quality that they were used to,” he says. The result of that search: bamboo. the 100% bamboo toilet paper was both stronger and softer than the 100% recycled toilet paper, but they were pretty close. Not only do they donate a huge amount of their profits compared to almost every other company in the world, when they launched they wanted to be sustainable too. And they seem to be doing pretty well in that regard. I suppose a lot of this is down to personal preference and I think it’s hard to figure out which is the most eco-friendly. I went into more detail about eco-friendly toilet paper here and discuss alternatives to toilet paper as well. Forest Friendly Tissues

Boddy, Natasha (29 December 2020). " 'I never meant to be a toilet paper mogul' Simon Griffiths". The Australian Financial Review. ProQuest 2472986994 . Retrieved 2 March 2022. The company is mainly Australia based, but the products are made in China. Products are shipped by sea freight from China to the EU (Netherlands), UK, USA and Australia. They are then distributed to customers from there rather than being shipped from China to Australia and then onward. a b Henderson, Emma (2021-07-27). Another 2022 Update: We’ve also now tried two other sustainable bamboo toilet paper brands, Roll Up and Flush. We still need to do a review on both, but so far, we have no complaints about either of them, though we do prefer Who Gives A Crap’s 100% Recycled Toilet Paper. it works great! It’s strong enough for the job. We’ve had barely any issues with “bits on the bum”, “poking” through or leaking through. Both of Who Gives A Crap’s TPs are 3-ply. Their 100% Recycled TP is equal in price or less expensive than the other 3-ply toilet papers listed, and it’s also less expensive than some of the 2-ply TPs. While their 100% Bamboo TP is designed to be premium toilet paper, meaning it’s likely to have the price tag to match, it’s also not the most expensive. Recycled toilet paper is toilet paper made of paper-type content that has been recycled. The recycled content is classified into two categories: post-consumer and pre-consumer.

YourBestDigs.com chose the toilet papers they were reviewing after extensive research to see which toilet paper brands represented the most popular choices out there, along with a few alternative newcomers. They are mainly known for their toilet papers. They sell both 100% recycled toilet paper and 100% bamboo toilet paper. In addition to toilet papers, they also sell forest friendly tissues, forest friendly paper towels, and a reusable paper towel alternative. The other brands that are less expensive than the 100% Recycled TP are also all 2-ply or 1-ply, which means you might be paying a bit less per square foot of toilet paper, but you may also need to use more square feet of TP per wipe if you choose a cheaper and lower ply. cost when compared to cheap traditional brands, especially if you’re buying from Canada; though it’s on par with popular/premium traditional brandsit feels great! Again, it’s not kitten soft but it doesn’t need to be. Though it is softer than the 100% recycled toilet paper. Both recycled and bamboo have their pros and cons with respect to the environment, and a great place to read more about that is in the 2019 report by the NRDC, “The Issue with Tissue: How Americans are Flushing Forests Down the Toilet.” It’s alsofree of dyes and perfumesso if you (like us) have adjusted to a less fragranced world, this will suit you just fine… honestly, who needs toilet paper that smells sort of like roses? When I run the numbers to compare this product to others ranked by the NRDC report, this looks like a solid C (but could be higher if more information were available). This puts it behind six other papers graded A and two with a B grade. I will say that this is a company that has great potential. They’re great marketers. Their product seems to be well-liked. I like that they are a B Corporation, and they seem to be funding good things in the developing world. If they would clean up their act on transparency and truly demonstrating how green their product is, as does their competition, then I’ll be a believer. Reply Did we already say that it’s one of the most environmentally friendly options for toilet paper out there? Yes? Well, I just really wanted to say it again because it makes me so happy ?.

Nosowitz, Dan (2019-07-17). "What's the deal with all this fancy new toilet paper?". Vox . Retrieved 2022-03-02. This toilet paper is biodegradable so whether it goes down the loo, a septic tank or buried in the ground it will naturally biodegrade releasing no harmful chemicals into the environment. While not exactly zero waste, they do provide atree-freeway to be less wasteful about your wiping. But just for simplicity’s sake, recycled toilet paperis currently best for the environment overall as it repurposeswaste rather than making a whole brand-new product. Overall, Who Gives A Crap delivers on being the kind of brand that I feel good about spending my money on. It wasn’t until after we bought our first plastic-free toilet paper (Sustainable Earth by Staples) that we found out that traditional toilet paper is actually really bad for the environment. based on the NRDC’s buyer’s guide for sustainable toilet papers, Who Gives A Crap’s bamboo toilet paper could be a lot more environmentally friendly. The highest score/grade a bamboo toilet paper product can receive is a 500/B+, where Who Gives A Crap 100% Premium Bamboo Toilet Paper has only received a score/grade of 200/D. Who Gives A Crap was started when they learned that over 2.3 billion people in the world don’t have access to a toilet. This is a serious health issue, as “289,000 children under five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.” Disclaimer: since we’re stationed in North America, we’re only going over WGAC prices for Canada and the USA.

That doesn’t mean that all recycled toilet papers are more eco-friendly than bamboo toilet papers. It depends on factors such as how much of the recycled content is post-consumer vs pre-consumer material, and whether or not the bamboo is farmed sustainably, etc. Still theWho Gives a Crap recycled TPis overall better environmentallysince it repurposes waste already in existence. a b c Macdonald, Anthony; Redrup, Yolanda (24 August 2021). "Who Gives A Crap scores first big funding injection". Australian Financial Review . Retrieved 2 March 2022. Toilet paper was one of the first “zero waste” swaps we made when we started living zero waste. We know that technically, using a non-reusable product like toilet paper isn’t “zero” waste. But living zero waste for us means being more mindful of our choices, so that we can reduce our impact on the environment. Looking at the above numbers (including the ply #), Who Gives A Crap’s cost is clearly on par with the popular and premium toilet papers out there today. The premium Who Gives a Crap bamboo toilet paperis definitely softer, although the difference to us was not enough to switch to bamboo. Worth knowing that Who Gives a Crapethicallysources their bamboo from localized family farms in the Sichuan Province. Besides sustainability, Alexander says the other big problem Who Gives A Crap wants to help solve is the fact that billions of people worldwide don’t have access to adequate water and sanitation facilities. “The toilet, the world’s most life-saving invention, is out of reach for billions of people around the world,” says Alexander. “Our big, airy, audacious goal as a business is to ensure that every single human on Earth has access to clean water and a toilet by the year 2050.” They’re also a B Corp certified company (see their B Impact score here).
