The most basic model Tube MP is a great value because it is so inexpensive, well made, and good sounding if used right. Using a transformerless design throughout, the Tube MP maintains exceptional signal integrity and extremely low noise. ART Tube MP Preamplifier Features: Another use for this preamp that I have found useful is using it as a DI for both bass guitar and acoustic guitars. this thing is absolutely amazing, although it's really a preamp for a mic, I use it all the time with my guitar. I have a line6 spider2 amp and a digitech gnx3 which i use to get my distortion sounds, and i used to think they sounded great and very close to the originals before i plugged my guitar into this thing. It contains a 12AX7 tube, the kind of tube in most highend preamps of your favourite marshall, mesa, fender etc. This unit turns the digital models in your processor or amp into the real things that play just like the tube amps. I dont know why more people dont try it. In common with a lot of budget valve equipment, the usual '250V DC plus' lethal high tension power supply has been replaced by a much lower voltage system, which does affect the valve's overload characteristics, as well as reducing the overall headroom, but if done properly, this approach can yield very pleasing results. In fact, the power comes from an external 9V AC supply, but I assume a voltage multiplier is being used somewhere, otherwise the maximum possible DC supply would be around 25 Volts, and the 48V phantom power switch on the front panel proclaims that this clearly isn't the case. I think people who say it does not Pramp do not perhaps have sounded really used properly. Playing between the level and the level of output, we can get some pretty cool results. It does add a subtle pleasant sonic aspect to the sound thanks to the magic of the tubes--this magic mostly consisting of a natural soft compression inherent to the design of the tube itself. I used it for recording and even during practice to alleviate the digital harshness of most of the equipment we get to use these days. Recommended for both its sonic properties and DI usefulness. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. This quality product, in the form of a case that inspires confidence in its strength, provides a quite satisfactory.

After using expensive valve preamps when recording in studios, I was after a cheaper version for my home studio; something that would add warmth to a bland digital signal.
