About this deal

Despite maintaining the key features that make the Escalante the Escalante (lively EGO midsole, FootShape toe box), there are a couple of points that differentiate the Escalante 3 from previous models. Most runners feel like the Escalante 3 runs true to size, with some even feeling like the shoe runs a bit large. This is more than just more space in the forefoot from the FootShape toe box–some runners actually feel like the Escalante 3 is a bit longer than most running shoes.

So when shopping the Escalante 3, it might be one of the rare cases where it is not recommended to size up half a size for a running shoe. Cost Finally, the Escalante 3 also turns out to be more flexible than the average running shoe. 20% more flexible to be exact which goes on to help with the "natural" feel. The Altra Escalante 3 is stableMany hear about overpronation and expect that they need a well-structured shoe to “correct” pronation. Still, some amount of pronation is expected and even a benefit. You are utilizing your ankle to absorb some of the impact from the ground. When we look at the outsole of the Escalante 3, we notice that possibly the biggest change has taken place here. The new arrangement of rubber segments is strongly reminiscent of the outsole of the Torin. According to the manufacturer, the segmentation (Footpod TM ) maps the bones and tendons of the foot, which should lead to a more natural running motion.

The platform is clearly wider. Measurements of platform vs Escalante 2.5: Forefoot 11.8 cm (+ 0.2), Midfoot 7.9 cm (+ 0,8), Heel 8.7 cm (+0.6) . Striving for versatility, especially in running shoes, can be risky. Achieve your goal, and you have a shoe that performs at a high level for all runners. Come up short, and you end up with a shoe that isn’t right for any specific group. Founded on a philosophy of promoting natural movement, Altra running shoes are distinct for what they don’t have–a lot of fancy features and technology promising to cure all of your running problems. But I have a hang-up about them because there’s arch support! Why would a “barefoot-inspired” shoe have arch support! Another interesting pronation measurement is the speed at which pronation occurs. That’s how fast you move from the initial foot impact position to the final pronated position. Different shoe designs can have dramatic effects on both pronation angle and speed. Shoe

Rawlings Running Cap

Personal: B (Solid fitting shoe with good comfort. Versatility does extend into casual wear. Running is smooth and fun, though my calves can get a little sore. Can't run too fast in them.)

I received a very colorful version, dubbed the Altra Escalante 3 SE, and my print-happy friends and family members were all over the wild cheetah and daisy combination. I’m more of a solid color kinda girl, but the review goes on. Besides, it’s nice to venture outside of your comfort zone here and there. DPT/Footwear Science: A (A great job of implementing natural feeling shoe and minimalist footwear for running and beyond) Whether it's for daily running, tempo days, biking, hiking, or even racewalking, the Altra Escalante 3 can handle it all. However, looking at the enormous square toebox, we can tell that there is significantly more room for toe splay in this Altra shoe compared to the average running shoe. With the Escalante 3, I have already tested 3 Altra road shoes this year (The other two: Altra Rivera 2 , Vanish Tempo , with Torin 6 underway) and I must say that the brand knows very well how to give each shoe a unique character. While the Rivera 2 is a shoe that feels good at any pace, the Vanish Tempo really omes into its own during moderate to fast sessions. The Escalante again feels different, but makes it hard for me to categorize it.Ultraspire Fitted Race Belt:The best way to carry your phone and goods on the run. No bounce and various sizes for waist. (Also recommend the Naked belt) Amphipod Hydraform Handheld Water Bottle: Perfect for long runs when you need hydration in the summer At the forefoot, the midsole of Altra Escalante 3 sits at the average (111.5mm vs 111.8mm). At the heel, it is narrower than the average, almost 6mm! (Escalante: 82.8mm, average: 88.7mm)

Today, we have an absolute classic on tap for review: The Altra Escalante! As for the designation, you shouldn’t be confused by the "3". This is already the fifth version of the model that has stolen its way into the hearts of many runners since its introduction in 2017. The Escalante 3.0 behaves more like a barefoot shoe than the 2.5. And I believe this is due to the firmer foam in the midsole.

What You Need To Know

Stability:B (Neutral, zero drop shoe with minimal stability features; nice improvement in upper stability due to overlays) Stability:B (Definitely a neutral shoe but a good job here. Outside of some flex in the upper material and a sidewall that does not do much, the shoe is still decently stable for a neutral shoe.)
