About this deal

Whatever your preference, always remember to hydrate your skin with a good moisturiser or serum before applying your foundation of choice. Burt also recommends prepping the skin with a clay mask to gently exfoliate the skin first. Another tip is to use a primer, which can help smooth fine lines and help the foundation to stay on longer. She also recommends using a flat foundation brush or kabuki-style blender to build coverage, using your fingertips to blend, tap and press in. “The warmth of your fingertips will create the flawless finish.” Pros: enhanced with antioxidant-rich extracts | stays put | thin formula that feels like a serum on the skin | effectively conceals redness, acne and blemishes | controls shine without looking flat

This Beautifully Matte foundation held nicely throughout the day and we think it’s definitely better suited for oily skin types. We particularly liked that our T-zone wasn’t oily at the end of the day, which takes some doing. As promised, this foundation truly did give a matte look, although if you apply too much we found that this full-coverage foundation left our faces looking a bit cakey. Hyaluronic Acid - powerful moisture-binding ingredient that can hold up to 1000x its weight in water, proven to hydrate skin, retains moisture and prevents moisture loss with reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin E - helps to improve and strengthen your skin's protective barrier. Perfect for sensitive skin.Pros: smooth formula that doesn’t crease | can be used to add airbrushed coverage to your make-up | perfect for on-the-go touch ups | comes in a compact with a mirror and sponge Pros: contains SPF | feels weightless | blurs pores | looks fresh from day to night | waterproof | non-greasy silicon formula is especially good for skin prone to shine | gives full coverage without an overdone look

Out of all the foundations in this No7 foundation group test, the Essentially Natural foundation gave the lightest coverage. It doesn’t really give full coverage to begin with, which is why you’ll need to build up to that kind of coverage if that’s what you’re after. As a result, the No7 Stay Perfect foundation could be a good foundation to cover all bases – lighter coverage for the day and fuller coverage at night. It also offers true-to-colour shade, even with SPF15. Panthenol - help the skin to attract water and then hold into it. Boosts skin barrier function. Soothes and reduces inflammation

Best foundation for sheer coverage

We were unimpressed with this No7 foundation almost immediately. When applied with a foundation brush we could see streaks on top of the skin that clung to dry patches. The shade came out lighter than expected, which is largely because of its SPF15 rating. The foundation worked well with silicone and water-based primers, and we preferred the look we used with the foundation brush because we felt it gave that bit more coverage where needed. Using a beauty blender gave more of a natural finish, which this foundation is designed to do and is ideal if that’s what you’re going for. In many ways, MAC’s latest foundation proves the brand is as much of a make-up authority as it’s ever been. The wide shade range caters to the palest and darkest complexions with warm, neutral and cool variations. Light and fluid, the formula is also self-setting and dries to a natural matte finish. The real clincher here, though, is a convenient pen tip that dispenses precisely the amount you need; an invaluable feature for make-up artists and the everyman after an application that’s more controlled. Doubling as a concealer, a little of this foundation goes a long way to hide all manner of sins, but it can also be sheered out for a look as natural as you like. As for its staying power? It’d be nothing short of criminal to wear a foundation for 36 hours in the name of testing – but judging from how well it held up over a long work day, it’s as reliable as they come. Yet while we’ve previously included No7 products in our various lists of Best Buys, now we’re delving a deeper to not only celebrate the brand’s foundation range but to put the best No7 foundations to the test.

Always feel as flawless as your complexion with our No7 Stay Perfect Foundation – a life-proof foundation for a natural finish with up to 24-hour super-staying power. Expertly formulated, this comfortable foundation with medium coverage feels lightweight and breathable, giving a beautifully even-toned complexion that lasts all day long. It can be relied upon to stay perfect; weather-proof, transfer-proof and won’t slide or shine on oily skin - it won’t let you down. Even though it gave light-to-medium coverage, it covered blemishes well and the shade matched almost exactly. This would be the perfect everyday foundation, it worked well with both primers and gave a lovely natural finish – our skin looked like, well, skin. We did favour the beauty blender application because it gave a smoother-looking complexion, but the difference was marginal. However, because the shade choices across these ranges vary so wildly, only a selection of the range features a suitable skin tone match (which for us is Warm Beige, for the record). Plus, the majority of foundation options only have around 15-20 shades, which is a really small selection by comparison to many other brands.

This foundation contains SPF15 and the consistency holds the SPF, which is why there was a slight white cast. We suggest going a shade darker We’re unsure why Boots doesn’t offer the same shade range across each type of foundation, or why it can be so difficult to tell which shade you are in each type. The shade matched our skin tone very well and it gave a natural finish. We also loved that it left our skin looking glowing, smooth and most of all healthy. No7 has, in many ways, changed the game when it comes to affordable, effective skincare and makeup. We’re very pleasantly surprised by how well this foundation performed. So much so, it surpassed our previous favourite No7 foundation, the No7 Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation. The Restore and Renew Serum foundation gave us light-to-medium coverage and it masked our blemishes with ease. The No7 Stay Perfect foundation is highly buildable and works well with a silicone primer. It was easy to work into the skin and it gave a natural finish, which we liked.
