About this deal

You can get a variety of designs, including coffee tables, dining tables and high-top tables; they’re almost always powered by gas or electric, but you can get wood-burning ones, too. We list brands to buy in our garden furniture buying guide. This does exactly what it says on the tin. It's designed with a fire pit in the centre of a table where you can place drinks and food – great for keeping your guests warm while you're socialising outdoors. In terms of design, the fire pit has a plain, but clean and stylish, appearance. However, to keep it looking like new, you will need to protect it with a fire pit cover when not in use, otherwise, rust will develop on the screen (although we found that the rest of the fire pit still looked great). Overall, the unit offers a simple, yet effective, design at a great value, and is an essential addition to any outdoor space.

Fire pits and chimineas aren’t great either. In fact, according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), while UK air quality has improved significantly over the past few decades, the burning of solid fuels (such as coal and wood) in our homes is the largest contributor of harmful particulate-matter (PM) emissions. We think this fire pit is a good option for grilling hamburgers and hotdogs once its flames subside, though it still wouldn't be our first choice for grilling, due to its height (but it's certainly doable if it's your only option). However, we think it can serve as a good option to take with you camping, since it's fairly lightweight, weighing 22 pounds, which makes it a reasonably manageable option to move around. Ideal if you like to go camping or you don’t want the fire pit to be a permanent fixture in your garden. Portable fire pits should be lightweight, and preferably have wheels and/or a carry case to make it easy to manoeuvre and store. Complete with a heat output of 40,000 BTU / 12KW, a stainless-steel burner, and integrated ignition, you can enjoy stable and ash-free green burning without the mess. This large garden gas-fired fire pit comes with everything you need to set up your fire pit to the gas bottle. We were able to assemble the unit in around 10 minutes. Although there were no instructions, each part was clearly labeled, and we only had to place the various included parts, such as the grill grate and screen, into the main unit.

The flames are powered through gas that you can easily switch on and off. You can get portable models, however most gas fire pits tend to be permanent –and they can be expensive. This BBQ fire pit also comes with a removable grate and fire guard for cooking, and Aldi say it's light, portable, and simple to assemble. The Range Industrial Fire Pit Camping pits: compact and portable, these fire pits are designed to be taken outdoors for safe, cosy campfires on the go. Since this is a small, compact fire pit, it's very easy to clean out and store when not in use. We continue to think it's an excellent way to add a bit of warmth and the ambiance of a traditional fire pit to small patios and balconies without adding a lot of smoke or a bulky unit. As with every British summer party, the weather was looking ‘unpredictable’ and Tim’s answer to this was to make a fire pit. It made the party. We all stayed outside until the wee hours and later everyone we knew wanted one too. And that was it. Fire pits UK was born. A patio heater won’t give the same experience as a fire pit or a chiminea, though, and you won’t be able to cook on it, either. While using this fire pit, we were pleased with how evenly the heat was distributed. We were able to feel the warmth without it feeling overpowering. Maintaining the fire required slightly more maintenance than other models, and we felt that the fire needed to be fed more firewood more often than other models. However, adding wood and kindling to the unit was a seamless process, and we do like that the bowl was decently sized and able to hold up to six firewood logs.

Generally speaking, the larger the pit, the more heat it will give off, although other factors can change this, including what materials it's made of and the fuel you use to power it. The height will often depend on whether you want to rest things on a table, but if you want to feel the warmth from your pit, you shouldn’t go much higher than 50cm from the ground. You may want to consider certain types of wood that are less likely to spit sparks or smoke too much when lit.The steel will oxidise naturally over time, so it shouldn't need much maintenance. Where to buy a fire pit Our expert guide to using your fire pit covers everything you need to know, including how to get it burning, the useful fire-pit gadgets to look out for, how to maintain your fire pit, plus top fire safety tips from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Avoid damp wood. It's likely to smoke heavily, and burning wet logs will produce far more PM than dry logs, making it much worse for the environment. In fact, since 1 May 2021, wood with higher than 20% moisture content in bundles of up to 2 cubic metres should not be sold in England, but can still be sold in the rest of the UK.
