About this deal

The slogan for the Xiaomi Mi 11 is ‘Movie Magic’, and we’ll get on to videography shortly, but there’s an interesting way in which this manifests in stills photography: the default photo aspect ratio is 20:9, a strikingly thin ratio that resembles that of movie screens, and gives a dramatic, cinematic effect to photos of landscapes and certain other subjects. You can change this if you prefer, but few phones let you shoot in this wide format at all, let alone by default. Improved graphics rendering is also on the cards, with the embedded Adreno 660 GPU returning an average frame rate of 96fps in the GFXBench Manhattan 3 benchmark at native (WQHD+) resolution.

This is one of the cheap and best quality cases available for Mi 11. It is ultra-thin, so it will not add any extra weights to your device. It is available in different colours. In terms of resolution, the Mi 11 screen is 1440 x 3200, which is sharper than those on most flagships of a similar price (including the Mi 10 and Galaxy S21). It’s an AMOLED panel, so colors are particularly vibrant, and there’s also HDR10+ support. The final camera is a 5MP f/2.4 ‘telemacro’ camera, and it’s certainly the star of the show. Macro lenses are used for close-up pictures of subjects, but that ‘tele-’ prefix denotes that the lens is designed for snapping far-off objects – put that together, and it’s a camera designed to take pictures of small objects from (relatively) far away - it’s activated when you turn on Super Macro mode. Another case available for Mi 11 is the armour case from Asling. It will protect your smartphone if it drops and nothing will happen to your device. The Mi 11 has a 6.81in edge-to-edge screen, with a native resolution of 1,440 x 3,200 and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. It has the same 108MP main camera unit (Samsung’s Isocell HM3 sensor) as the pricier Galaxy S21 Ultra and it also has ultrawide and macro cameras. Lastly, it runs Android 11 from the get-go and comes with either 128GB or 256GB of storage as well as 8GB of RAM. Xiaomi Mi 11 review: Price and competition The display has a 120Hz refresh rate, which many flagships now use, though Xiaomi does have a 144Hz phone on the market too. This means the image updates 120 times per second, double the ‘standard’ of 60Hz, and in effect this makes moving images appear smoother. Not everyone cares for the feature though, and you can turn the refresh rate down to 60Hz if you prefer, and this saves battery life.

As well as the video-shooting modes, there are a few ‘Movie filters’ which you can apply when you shoot a video, or afterwards – these seem to replicate a color grade film would get, which is when color range, contrasts, brightness or similar settings are tweaked to create a consistent art style. The available options all seemed pretty stark though, and we’d have liked to see some more subtle filters, or the facility to create your own.The phone returned a multi-core score of 3569 in the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, which is actually the highest of any phone we’ve ranked, beating the 3424 of the iPhone 11 Pro Max and 3401 of the OnePlus 8, although we should point out the iPhone 12 series hasn’t been put through this test yet. The product is heavy and increases the weight of your smartphone. If you wish to buy, then you can visit the above-mentioned link. The Galaxy S21 Plus, which uses the same chip and RAM capacity, beat the Mi 11's single core score with 1,116, but the Mi 11 edged out the S21 Plus’ multicore score of 3,300. The S21 Ultra easily beats the Mi 11 on both tests, but has an easy advantage thanks to 12GB of RAM.

It's still very hard to take these macro photos without any stabilization. The one you see here was from a selection of 17 attempts. Normally, it takes me five at most to find a shot I'm happy with. U.K. customers shouldn't have to worry though. There's much greater unity between the 5G carriers over here, and all of them should offer 5G support with the Mi 11 according to Xiaomi's specs. So the Xiaomi Mi 11 is a great smartphone and one of the best Xiaomi phones, but it's certainly not a flawless phone. Third on our list is the dual layer case for the Xiaomi Mi 11. Constructed from high-grade TPU and hard PC material, it provides maximum protection to your phone in case of impacts and scratches. It features a metal patch that can easily be attached to a magnetic holder in a car for easy GPS navigation or hands-free watching. The reinforced edge cushioning and raised edges provides full protection of the four corners from drops and sudden jerks. That doesn't seem to have helped the Mi 11 capture this view over an inner London park. It's much darker than the iPhone 12 Pro's image I'm using for comparison, which makes it hard to notice any additional detail the 27MP shot gets over the 12MP iPhone photo.

With a Snapdragon 888, 108MP camera and 120Hz screen, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is (almost) the complete package

It’s not clear why this was happening, but it repeatedly happened after we’d returned the settings to our preferences, and an update didn’t fix the issue. Xiaomi Mi 11 battery life With a 6.81-inch display, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is the company’s biggest flagship in terms of screen size, and it also dwarfs almost all of its competitors. The screen is curved at its edges, though not dramatically so, and is broken up by a small ‘punch-hole’ cut-out for the selfie camera in the top-left corner. The main one we found during our testing was that the Xiaomi Mi 11’s battery life simply isn’t up to snuff – we had to turn off some of the phone’s features if we wanted it to last a day. If you want to enjoy all the unique features you’re paying for, be aware that you’ll need to charge this thing more than once per day. Another product from Muchi on AliExpress and is quite popular among the buyers. The same is available in five different color options. As we mentioned above, it covers the entire camera module; only camera sensors are visible. The secondary camera is a 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide snapper, which we’ve seen Xiaomi use in its smartphones since the dawn of time (well, early 2020). As before, it’s useful for taking in more of a subject, and we found it took a brighter picture too. Photos are lower-resolution though, and often don’t have the contrast of snaps from the main camera.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi 11 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. While you get the latest chipset Qualcomm has to offer, you only have 8GB RAM, which pales in comparison to the 12GB you can now find on top performing Androids like the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The ultrawide camera on the Mi 11 has a magnification of 0.6x — common for Android phones but less extreme than the 0.5x camera on the iPhone 12 Pro, hence the different look of these two images of Archway. Either way, this round belongs to the iPhone thanks to its much richer colors. Let’s start with positives first. The Snapdragon 888 inside the Xiaomi Mi 11 delivered a performance increase of up to 28% when compared with the previous-generation Snapdragon 865 in the Geekbench 5 single- and multi-core CPU tests. It also outperformed the Samsung Exynos 2100 in the same benchmark but failed to match (or beat) the iPhone 12’s speeds. The A14 Bionic remains the CPU king for the time being. connectivity may vary based on region availability and local operator support. 5G SA connectivity enhancements may be added via OTA where applicable. A wonderful range of cases and covers for Xiaomi Mi 11 from brands such as Ringke, Nillkin and more. Our aim is to provide a range of accessories offering different styles and colours. Among the available products you will find minimalist covers by ESR, modern cases by Ringke, elegant cases by Dux Ducis, or the most durable, armoured covers by UAG. You can also add tempered glass or protective film, which will complete the protection of your Xiaomi Mi 11. A properly fitted case provides a level of protection against scratches and damage and also gives your smartphone a unique look.

Finally, the Mi 11 offers reverse wireless charging up to 10W to give a friend's phone a boost of power or to keep your wearables and wireless earbuds topped up. In our Xiaomi Mi 10 review we complimented the “seriously good sound” of the speakers, and they’ve only got better in the Mi 11, with tuning from audio specialists Harman Kardon. If you’re used to phone speakers causing calls, movies or music to sound tinny, the Mi 11 speakers will be a treat, as the sound is bassier and can go louder without distorting, at least compared to your average smartphone. Xiaomi Mi 11 software Xiaomi usually reserves telephoto, or zoom, cameras for its ‘Pro’ models, and that’s the case here, as there’s no lens for optical zoom. You can digitally zoom up to 30x, but the further you zoom the lower the quality of the image, and beyond 5x images are a little too grainy.
