About this deal

Bake The Red Cake: Whisk together the red velvet cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla pudding mix, and sour cream.Pour the batter into a loaf pan (Image 1) and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Swap The Sprinkles: If you cannot find candy hearts or sprinkles, use red hot candy hearts, red M&Ms, or make your own red heart with red sugar cookie icing.

Once the cake is baked, let it cool and then cut the cake into slices. Then, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out as many hearts as it takes to lay them face to face from one end of the pan to the other end. Make sure it is a snug fit but leave a little room at each end for the green cake mix. Finally, change your star tip to a #2 round tip and carefully pipe the teeth onto the face of Grinch between the lines you painted on. Bake: Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for 30 minutes to an hour. (Image 7) The final challenge of this cake was the Grinch’s fur. I was happy with how smooth I was able to get my second layer of green frosting, but it didn’t feel right. If you can’t find heat-treated flour, you can simply heat your flour in the microwave for about 1 minute, or until it reaches and internal temperature of 160 degrees F. Giving this Grinch Cake Some Fur He needed just a bit of fuzz. A touch of fur. I decided to use a small fork to add a bit of texture. RESULTS: This cake was delicious! The flavoring really made it taste more buttery & vanilla – I didn’t detect the Carmel or nut flavors in the loaf. The pumpkin was good by itself (I sampled a piece of scrap from the heart cake), but was not really noticeable when mixed with the loaf. I think the icing doesn’t go with pound cake, so my next experiment is going to be with using some sort of crumbles on top – like you have on top of a crumb cake. My thinking is that green crumbles may make it look more Grinch-like lol  I’ll let you know how that goes. Loaf: Pillsbury’s Green Velvet cake mix (it comes with both Red & Green – I wasn’t sure what to expect in the box. Turns out that the mix has coloring already in it – so the red velvet is not used for this project) I mixed blue and yellow to make the green frosting. You may want to use more yellow than blue for a more “Grinch-like” green.

Mix chunks of room-temperature butter slowly into the dry mix, on a low speed. Continue to mix until no large chunks of butter remain, and the mixture becomes crumbly. Add in the salt, baking powder, instant espresso mixture, and vanilla extract. Mix on a low speed until incorporated. RESULTS – I get why you need to use the pound cake for the heart because it is dense/heavy, but thought I’d try a cake mix for the rest. It was very difficult to figure out when it was done because the box doesn’t have a recommendation for baking a cake in a loaf pan – I didn’t write it down, so I don’t recall how long it baked (sorry). Upon slicing – the heart was perfect!!! The green color of the cake was very dark, but a pretty color. The icing was way too light and the wrong shade of green!

Use Other Oil: You can use coconut oil or butter instead of the vegetable oil. Just note that the taste will be a little different and your Grinch cake might not be quite as moist. Bake on parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet at 350 degree Fahrenheit for about 7 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Now mix the second cake and add some green food coloring. While the cake is baking, cut the rest of the red pound cake hearts so you will have them to bake with later. I froze mine so they will be ready for some early Valentine’s cakes. I also used the food processor to chop up the remaining scraps to use on the base of some cakes and sprinkles on some cupcake icing. Fun right? I don’t waste anything!

The sweatshirt was exactly the push I needed to finally make a Grinch Cake. But once I’d made up my mind, I had a few things I needed to figure out. Which Version of The Grinch? Combine the cream of tartar with 2 Tbs of confectioners sugar and then add that to the whipped, firm peaked meringue, continue whipping and add the remaining confectioners sugar There’s no shame in baking Christmas cake pops from a boxed cake mix, especially during the hectic holiday season. This simple cake pops recipe produces a moist middle that’s perfect for covering with a green candy coating.

No airbrushing, no fondant appliques and certainly no edible images!

Add in vanilla and oil, and mix at a low speed until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula, then beat on low speed for about 15 seconds (the key is to mix until the ingredients are JUST incorporated, so that the batter isn't over mixed). Add a thin coat of frosting around the cake, to fully cover the cake layers. Smooth using an acetate sheet, then chill the cake in the fridge (20 minutes) or freezer (5 minutes) until the frosting is firm to the touch. Dip And Decorate: Dip the cake pop into the melted candy and place it on the baking tray (Image 3). Once the coating has hardened, melt the remaining candy melts and pipe swirls around the cake pop (Image 4). While the drizzle is still warm, dust with sanding sugar and add the candy heart. Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
