The last time LEGO veered from your typical Winter Village build was with 2014’s Santa’s Workshop, so this kind of feels like we get a fantasy build every 5 years.

LEGO 10267 Gingerbread House receives a rare 5/5 rating, only the third perfect score I’ve issued this year.By letting their designers’ imaginations run wild, LEGO have yet another hit on their hands with the Gingerbread House, easily making it one of the standout sets of 2019.

I absolutely love the roof on the gingerbread house, which gives this model its signature look. It mimics the look of icing on the gingerbread house which also doubles as a heavy cover of snow. It was fun to build and I quite liked that everyone made a bit of it. It’s part of the Creator range but we didn’t find it particularly difficult to build. The set includes a lovely gingerbread house with lots of detail, a gingerbread man and lady figure with baby, a Christmas tree with presents and toys. Last year we spent some time sorting out our 5 year olds bedroom. He doesn’t seem to need much sleep so we wanted to make an area for him to play when he wakes up early. He already had an Ikea Trofast unit but we thought we would give it a makeover and make it more useful.At the time he had recently moved from Lego Duplo to Lego so the first step was to empty the drawers of Lego Duplo. These were passed on to his younger sister.

So the main question – does this set belong in LEGO’s Winter Village theme? Aesthetically it does, but it does raise a concerning thought that humanoid Gingerbread People living side by side with regular minifigures. We followed the instruction booklet and loved watching the set come together. The outside of the house is decorated with candy-cane columns, frosted roofs with colourful candy buttons and pink and purple windows. Turn the house around and you can see inside the gingerbread house with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom and bedroom.The living room raises more disturbing questions. Firstly, the fireplace does heaps in helping create a really cosy environment, and I also like the chocolate bar lounge chair. We tried to help him organise his Lego sets by labelling each drawer. This lasted a few days before everything got mixed up again!
