Contemporary Motivators · Droids: 6, 7, 8 · The Special Edition: 1, 2, 3, 4, TPB · Manga: 1, 2, 3, 4 Chewie and Leia share a heartfelt moment. Leia tells him before they depart, “ You were there for me when I had no one else to turn to.” Oftentimes this relationship can go untalked about, but this moment instantly brought me to the scene in The Rise of Skywalker where Chewie learns of Leia’s passing and the heartbreaking cries that ensued. Overall, The Princess and the Scoundrel is a captivating story focusing on two of the most beloved Star Wars characters. The novel is so much more than a wedding and a honeymoon cruise. The Princess and the Scoundrel is about the earliest days of the fledgling New Republic in the wake of the Emperor’s death. Its setting is a transitionary period between the fall of a fascistic regime and the birth of another fighting for freedom. It was just a setting to explore. It was really fun to look at the plans and the different elements being designed, being able to decide which ones I could drop into the story or have them go beyond. When you’re actually there, you’ll see doors which read “CREW MEMBERS ONLY” so I was able to have Han walk through those doors. Hopefully when people are there this helps them think of it as a ship and not just a hotel.

Numerous Easter Eggs can be found once the couple reaches the Halcyon, the cruise ship used as the setting of Walt Disney World’s Galactic Starcruiser. If you’ve been to this one-of-a-kind event, you’ll find yourself happily reminiscing locations like the Engineering Room or Sublight Lounge and you’ll read about familiar faces like D3-09 and Riyola Keevan. If you’re not familiar with Galactic Starcruiser, the plot is moving along setting up the intrigue to come once the cruise ship reaches the moon Madurs. After being frozen in carbonite, then risking everything for the Rebellion, Han is eager to stop living his life for other people. He and Leia have earned their future together, a thousand times over. And when he proposes to Leia, it’s the first time in a long time he’s had a good feeling about this. For Leia, a lifetime of fighting doesn’t truly seem over. There is work still to do, penance to pay for the dark secret she now knows runs through her veins. Her brother, Luke, is offering her that chance—one that comes with family and the promise of the Force. But when Han asks her to marry him, Leia finds her answer immediately on her lips . . . Yes.

He told me to tell you --” Luke started, but Leia’s head whipped up, eyes fierce as she glared at him. Throughout the novel, this revelation makes Leia balk at the idea of studying the Force and honing her own skills alongside her twin brother Luke, even as he gently tries to convince her of her potential. We know Leia eventually begins Force training with Luke, but up until this novel we haven’t seen much of her feelings about her abilities and the legacy these two carry. Han is pissy over Lando failing to keep his promise that the Falcon wouldn't get a scratch during the Battle of Endor. Troll: Jedi Knight he may be, but even Luke can't resist poking fun at his future brother-in-law as Han's Stag Party slowly and inevitably goes off the rails. The Emperor is dead, and the second Death Star is destroyed. Galaxy-wide peace and freedom are so close the Rebels can taste them. But at this moment, even as Han and Leia worry over the future, they only have eyes for one another.

Without getting too deep into spoilers, Beth introduces a new culture and planet to the Star Wars galaxy, the Madur. Beth provides a rich history for the Madur, but when we meet them their planet has been greatly affected by the Empire. It’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to speak with an author about what it’s like to do world-building in the galaxy far, far away and Beth was very generous with her answer. Embarrassingly, the first thing I had to ask about was the correct pronunciation of their name, which Beth shared is a tribute for two of science-fiction’s greatest authors. Leia reflects on events Han missed during the year he was entombed in Carbointe, from the hunt for Boba Fett to meeting Qi'ra, and her feud with Commander Zahra. Leia looked at him. Since becoming a Jedi Knight, he had always seemed so calm, so sure of his direction. The Death Star is destroyed. Darth Vader is dead. The Empire is desolate. But on the forest moon of Endor, among the chaos of a changing galaxy, time stands still for a princess and her scoundrel.

Before the celebration starts we learn that there is more work for the Rebellion to do. There are still groups doing the Empire’s work across the galaxy harming small and vulnerable planets. After the second Death Star exploded, information was sent out across the galaxy, indicating Palpatine had plans in place even if he died. The mystery that Han and Leia try to unravel is intriguing, as Yens tries to keep them in the dark and away from the suspicious activity. But several times I felt myself being dragged along by the pace of the book. It could get a bit boring, but the climax and denouement of the book are worth the wait. Fans of the greater Star Wars continuity will be titillated by the appearance of another Rebellion-era element and a precursor to a Sequel era tech. I love how much Leia grows to care for this beautiful moon. And she proves without a doubt to be one of the few politicians and leaders that truly care about people. Han is still a little rough around the edges, but he cares too, in his own way.Leia nodded. She had told Luke that she didn’t -- couldn’t -- understand the power he had, but he seemed eerily calm and confident that she could actually wield the Force as he did. Leia might not have any real experience with the Force, but there was no denying the power Luke had... the power she felt, too, like a fluttering of flitterfly wings just on the edge of her consciousness. Waiting for her to seize it. This book reveals that Han Solo couldn't have been more than ten years older than Luke Skywalker. Since Luke was born in 19 BBY [8] that would place Han's birth circa 29 BBY. However, information revealed in Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide contradicts this by setting Solo's birth circa 32 BBY. [9] Media [ ] Editions [ ] Leia’s experience is also what you might expect. Spending hours shaking hands and keeping her political mask in place with the societal elites who couldn’t care one bit about the war or struggles of the less fortunate, her position weighs on her. Meeting dozens who couldn’t care less about the battle against the Empire and others who wish she were on the losing side rather than the victor can take a toll. Her steadfastness is admirable, and her inner strength is unrivaled. She is so desperate to do as much good as she can; driven to this goal by the fear that someday the truth of her parentage will come forth. When people learn who her father is, she knows everything will change. This is what largely draws her to engage in more work than romance on her honeymoon, and serves as the main source of friction between her and Han. This desire also is what leads us to Halcyon’s change in destination. Star Wars has had dozens of epic and passionate love stories over the decades. Perhaps the greatest of those is the original love story of Princess Leia and Han Solo. Now, for the first time, we get an entire adult novel dedicated to our favorite Star Wars couple with Beth Revis’ The Princess and the Scoundrel. The Death Star is destroyed. Darth Vader is dead. The Empire is desolated. But on the forest moon of Endor, amongst the chaos of a changing galaxy, time stands still for a princess and her scoundrel.

Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade · Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel · Lords of the Sith · Tarkin · Jedi: Battle ScarsStarWars.com has a first look at artist Oliver Cuthbertson's painting that will grace the upcoming book. One of the most impactful scenes in the book happens very early on. We see Leia’s anger with Darth Vader and the war surface. Which is good, Leia should be allowed to be angry about what’s happened. She has lost her home, her parents, and so many, many, friends. Luke in front of Darth Vader’s funeral pyre
