Like most other robot vacuums, the SpinWave features a main brush roll on the bottom, plus dual edge-cleaning brushes. Bissell says this scrubbing action wipes dirt and stains away from hardwood floors and other hard surfaces. I’ve taken to just picking up the runner on the nights that I’m having it mop, and it works just fine. We also assessed each robot’s ability to navigate around obstacles, including a dining chair and small area rug, along with the occasional dog toy that my pets left in the middle of the floor.

On a subsequent test, it ran for an impressive 166 minutes, though it got wedged under my TV stand and required my help getting out. For me, to create a format, I actually had to send it out twice, but after that, I had an accurate map of my space. But, if you just want something that will make your life a bit easier and reduce your need to vacuum on the daily, this little guy will be your best friend. To test the Bissell SpinWave R5, I not only used it for general cleanings in both dry and wet modes but I used it manually as well as via the app over a two week period to get a good sense of what it’s capable of.

To turn on the SpinWave's Wi-Fi, simply power cycle the device using the side switch, then hold the start/pause button for five seconds until you hear a beep. I have two kids and two dogs, my house is a split-level, meaning there are stairs everywhere, and we also vacuum our house maybe quarterly.The mop function is also great, but it’s not quite as thorough or deep of a cleaning job as it would be if I did it myself. The Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry Robotic Vacuum is a very low-profile floor sweeper and mopper that covers the very basics of floor cleaning. When you press the button to select zones, a new page appears with a map of your space where you can create zones. I’ve been making an effort to pick up everything off the floor before I go to bed each night, so it almost never gets caught on anything.

Many robot vacuums struggle when it comes to cleaning under furniture, behind couches, or between the legs of chairs. Besides a power switch on the side, the vacuum itself only has two buttons situated on top of the unit, one to start or pause cleaning and one to dock.

Even iRobot's dedicated Braava Jet m6 robot mop sprays floors with less cleaning solution on its maximum spray setting. This robot doesn’t offer smart mapping, a feature wherein the app creates and saves a digital map of your home, meaning you’re not able to direct the SpinWave to clean specific areas or set up virtual barriers to keep it away from obstacles. But these home helpers can be expensive so it’s important to choose the right one since you’re going to be paying for it.
