About this deal

They say it' is one of the best non peated whisky's in its class and that it contains beautiful nutty tones. Commenting on the flavour of the blend, Arrans Master Distiller, James MacTaggart, said: This malt has been skilfully created by combining different ages to produce a beautifully rounded whisky. A blow-the-budget option if you prefer your drams on the fiery side, this super-peated, cask-strength whisky from Islay’s Bruichladdich should satisfy. In 1992 Harold Currie (ex-Pernod Ricard and Isle of Arran Distillers), Stewart Jowett (then owner of Tobermory distillery) and Derek Hewson (a tax and revenue consultant) planned to get Tobermory distillery, which had been silent since 1982, up and running again. This has the benefit of smoothing out any bitterness and can bring more of the sweetness to the surface.

The first Crested release came in 1963, with Jameson beginning to bottle their own whiskey (rather than selling to bonders) and it’s known to have a healthy proportion of pot still whiskey as well as a high proportion of Sherry casks used for maturation (bourbon barrels are also used). Comes in great condition with original box, whilst the scores from the WhiskyFun experts had this beautifully toned malt flying into 90 point plus territory! Lots of heavy and medium highlands with a bit of Speyside, some grain (at cask strength) for welly and a hefty slug of the Islay for a late punch. It was very very dark and quite sweet – a definite hint of black treacle without quite so much of its burnt taste.

Flavours are super complex, ranging from sweet and fruity through to powerfully peaty and medicinal. While most whiskies are either sweet and fruity or peaty and powerful, we think this dram successfully offers a bit of both. This special Single Malt is the official Scotch whisky commemorating Robert Burns legacy and is consequently a highly anticipated launch from Arran Distillery this year.

Their core range includes a number of aged and no-aged expressions, as well as some cask experimentation. The distillery turns 15 years old this week and to celebrate they are having an open day on July 3rd with various events during the day, a ceilidh in the evening, a special whisky cask aged beer from the rather good local Arran Brewery, 3 single cask bottlings from 1995 and a generally available special edition bottling, but more about that later. Having made a point of letting us know that Arran produced unpeated spirit, Céline went on to explain what this dram was all about. On the nose it had raisins, milk chocolate, a touch of struck match, buttered toast, marzipan and shortbread. To be eligible for a full refund you must contact us to inform us of any issue within 24 hours of receipt. They're especially good with puddings (ginger sponge, crème brûlée, fruit cake), neat as an after-dinner drink or mixed into an Old Fashioned cocktail. To taste it had caramel with sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, just unripe vine fruits and a hint of pepper.

Named for the Belted Galloway cow on the label, a rare breed from the area around the distillery, it’s bottled at 55%. On sipping, that spiciness races through the senses, clearing the way for a fresher burst of fruit and some pronounced malt flavours, with a sherry sweetness maintained throughout. I feel that although this Whisky is top tier in quality, the flavour profile is somewhat intense and likely better suited to experienced whisky drinkers. The range has an Islay, Highland and Speyside regional expressions and each being a single malt, have come from a single (but undeclared) distillery. We moved on to another moustachioed bottle, this time last year’s Master of Malt Movember bottling – M’Orkney.

Anyways, combined with a few bottles contributed by my visitors I definitely have enough wine now, although still only 3 spare slots on the wine rack. I also grabbed a bottle of 15 year old Glencadam, having liked the SMWS bottling I picked up a couple of weeks back. Another travel retail exclusive, this one is made up of whisky distilled on March 10th 1988 and kept for all of its 21 years in port casks. I’m going to describe this as a great ‘grabbable’ whisky, place it front and centre on shelf as the one you’re happy for anyone to pour. Matured for 22 years in american oak before being recasked for 6 months to finish in 30 year old Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Oloroso sherry butts, this is part of Dalmore’s increasingly silly range of premium whiskies, although very much at the lower end.

Jason did touch on the Arran rebranding here, but I feel a special mention of the branding change needs highlighting. Amazing Value for money’ was Matthew’s quote and others Members commented it was a drink they could sip all day long. I'm not saying this isn't a good whisky, I just personally prefer more flavour - this is one for those who like a very, very light whisky. To taste it’s thick and syrupy, with red grapes, spicy wood and a chunk of tannin, rolling towards a buttery apple finish. It took water well, tasting younger as the water knocked out some of the peat, adding more cereal and mulchy grass.Islay whiskies are famous for the smoky aromas and flavours created by peated malts, which doesn’t appeal to all tastes. year old single malt Scotch whisky from GlenAllachie, released in mid-2018 following Billy Walker taking the reins of the distillery in 2017. Locranza is a village on Arran, an oval-shaped island on the west coast of Scotland, located west of Glasgow, just east of Mull of Kintyre. Proving that Blends aren’t Single Malt’s sensible brother, Cutty Sark Prohibition is the strongest recommendation on our list at 50% abv. Richard is an especially appropriate candidate for honouring on the bottle as not only has he survived cancer but also removed his rather famous moustache for Movember.
