Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz Cabernet Rum 2021 is first matured in traditional French and American oak wine barrels and then, once blended, is finished in Caribbean rum barrels. A rich yet elegant Australian Shiraz which has been enhanced by a unique barrel ageing process - first being aged in a wine barrel, followed by ageing in a scotch whisky barrel. In 1847, a young Bavarian immigrant named Johann Gramp planted the Barossa Valley's first commercial Vineyard on the banks of Jacob's Creek. The packaging you received them in would be ideal to ship them back it if you still have it available.Fruit was harvested from a variety of regions within South Eastern Australia that have traditionally provided the correct balance of flavour for the blend. We went with a blend of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon; the shiraz offering the plushness and richness from the fruit and the cabernet sauvignon providing structure, density and the tannin profile – a fantastic base to start. The wine is made from a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and the result is a full-bodied, complex red wine. Plenty of dark fruit, and the oak makes it savoury through the finish, even if the coffeed, grainy tannins are blocky and distracting. It’s not about subtlety or complexity, it’s about sheer mass of rich and generous flavour, and for that I admire it.
