About this deal
Tension comes from several quarters and I like how several chapters have suspenseful endings which keeps you reading on. That ending brought such a deep smile to my face that, as you reach it, most readers will likely agree with me.
I found this book engrossing however as I am not a fan of reality shows, I found the manipulative and devious behaviour of the show’s producer distasteful.
I adore the vivid, realistic characters, the peculiar, eccentric, complex family dynamics of Ffion (I adored her Mam Ellen Morgan and wished we could see more of her in this book), her unresolved feelings with her ex, and her fiery new love relationship with DS Leo Brady, which might be sabotaged by her own insecurities. MacKintosh weet goede verhalen uit te brengen en ook met Het leugenspel heeft ze weer een goed verhaal op de markt gebracht, hoewel ik het 1e deel denk ik toch nog net wat beter vond. This book however was really frustrating in that when you're reading a detective/thriller book part of the fun is being able to try to guess the killer. Rechercheur Ffion Morgan moet wat ze van de show gezien heeft vergeten en uitzoeken wie deze mensen werkelijk zijn, wetende dat ze geen van hen kan vertrouwen.
It’s a lengthy procedural with a lot of characters, a non-linear timeline, and it won’t be for everyone but once I got into the story a bit I was well and truly addicted and it’s still a favorite. However, when the truth about the series is learned and the director is killed in a seemingly impossible fashion, its up to DC Morgan and DS Brady to solve the mystery. Everyone has a secret in this game show set in the Welsh mountains but who would kill to keep their secret.Ffion is struggling with her emotions and a new rescue dog named Dave, who is THE BEST; he brings some much-needed humor into the plot. I had the same issue with A Game of Lies that I had with the first book in the series - the book felt too long. DC George Kent, an introverted, closed-book, work-oriented woman, has recently transferred to their team as DS Leo starts dating a very pushy lady and tries to spend more time with his son. I especially liked Georgina, whose cold, unemotional demeanour conceals a dreadful secret but also a great sense of humour. Translated into forty languages, her books have sold more than two million copies worldwide and have spent a combined total of sixty-eight weeks in the Sunday Times bestseller chart.
