The 55U8QGTUK uses a range of high-end technologies to deliver class-leading picture quality. The full array local dimming feature is effective at boosting contrast significantly, but it's not as good as the newer Hisense U8/U8H, which delivers nearly twice the contrast with local dimming. The corners are noticeably darker than the center of the screen, and there are three dark vertical bands near the center of the screen. The white balance is now nearly perfect, but as it was already excellent, this isn't a noticeable improvement.

Building on Dolby Vision technology, IQ makes use of the TV's ambient light sensors, adjusting the whole image depending on the light in your room.There's a bit of dirty screen effect as well, which is distracting when watching sports or anything with a large area of uniform color.

The Sony looks best in a dark room, as the OLED panel displays perfect blacks, with no blooming or uniformity issues.
