About this deal

Josh and Essie meet and they fall in love over jokes about nuts that are not at all funny and just feel cringe as hell. He’s supposed to forget her, because everyone forgets her and that’s kind of the way witches protect themselves but the spell doesn’t work completely on Josh and he keeps remembering her and it gets stronger the more they come into contact. She did actually do most of her homework, but quickly so as to have more time to stare out of the window thinking about heroes. After the complete disaster that was Secretly Yours, I really needed a good book to set me back on track.

Quirky characters, magic, a monster to defeat, an adorable romance, a magical house filled with magical things. His inheritance includes a ramshackle house that will require a great deal of renovation and a number of tenanted properties that should provide him with rental income. In addition, there was something else more nefarious going on in the seemingly idyllic town of Good Winter that kept my attention hooked. My sci-fi action romance Max Seventeen won the Paranormal Romantic Novel of the Year from the Romantic Novelists Association in 2017. When a young American lawyer, Josh, turns up to collect the rent from Beldam House after inheriting a lot of property in the village, he and Essie are instantly attracted to each other. All I've picked up so far is that Josh is a rather wimp who appears scared of life and Essie is moody and entitled and has all the maturity of a teenager. Johnson's writing is witty and charming, and her portrayal of the witchy world of Beldam House is enchanting. All Essie ever wanted was to be normal, but it’s hard to be normal when you can freeze everything around you. Under the pen name Cat Marsters I also had a successful career in erotic romance, winning an Epic award in 2010. I ended up devouring this book on a blustery Saturday morning, and I was so sad that I had read it in one sitting because I didn’t want to leave the world that Kate created.

I mean, how can anyone dislike the quirky ghost of a witch who was hanged 300 years ago and is still salty about that and sometimes walks the house as a normal person and sometimes needs to hang comfortably on a rope in the tree she died in to calm herself down when things get too heated and tells you off about the comforts of the modern age? While I enjoyed this book, I found myself more invested in the supernatural conflict than the romance between Essie and Josh. Had the relationship between the couple been more fleshed out and not so back and forth (keep in mind the book takes place over a few weeks), I probably would’ve been more invested. Lite snurrig att lyssna på som ljudbok kände jag, så här i efterhand hade jag nog hellre läst den för att verkligen få med alla detaljer (för det är så mycket som händer).

There's a little spice, magic, time travel and some fun twists and turns alo g the way to keep the reader fully engaged. This doesn't further the plot at all and isn't relevant to it so I am not sure why it's even in the book. The characters started to show a different side of themselves, and it made them so much more likable and easier to connect with.

I found this an engaging tale that balanced a lovely romance with fantasy, humour, and some chilling bits. We essentially get a repeat of the trapping of the monster, except Josh and Siena and Essie's mom are involved. So much so, that I'd happily read a sequel to learn more about the witches of Bedlam House and to see how Essie and Josh's relationship develops - I need more of them. I felt like the story took on a little too much and the plot wasn’t as smooth as it could have been. I wasn’t expecting the spice in this book; I thought this book was going to be more of a cutesy clean romance story.I really liked resident ghost and former witch Prudence whose random appearances at the most inconvenient times were genuinely entertaining. quote=""Gashead""] Hex I belive, means witchcraft or to put a spell on something on our waters however over in the fat U. I was expecting a cute and cosy read but this was fast paced, it had humour, a bit of steam, time travel, spells, and it’s set in Essex…it was a lot, but in a good way. All Essie ever wanted was to have a normal life but in the end she found herself drawn back to Beldam House because she just can’t stop her witchiness (although the ability to instantly chill wine is pretty awesome, even she has to admit). The writing style jumped from chapter to chapter almost as if different people contributed parts of the story.
