Costache suffers a heart attack, after which the whole Tulea family spends 2 days in the old man’s house completely ignoring him and his illness. She is constantly trying to tear her down, and fights bitterly against the idea of Costache adopting her. Stănică is a complete jerkass who gives the reader a new reason to hate him with every scene he appears in, but it seems like he truly loves his family when he goes to visit his aging aunt for her birthday.

His Uncle Costake is reluctant to give him any of his money (suggesting that he borrow some) and even”borrows” some money from Felix.
