About this deal

Parental Neglect: Olimpia and her husband constantly leave their two month old son alone on a crib without any kind of railing, resulting in the baby tumbling down from it and dying of a concussion. Costache and Pascalopol are a necessity to her, they are those who have seen the world with its good and bad and, I suppose, she finds in them her guide in life. Pascalopol knows Otilia since she was a child, is old enough to be her father and admits to Felix that he is uncertain what is paternal and what is sexual in his affection for her. But seeing as he starts being delirious, Aglae, helped by Stanica and Weissmann take him to a sanatorium. Read all A large family and it's many generations vie for advantage, seeking to win the inheritance sure to be left behind by a wealthy older man of the clan.

When he is seriously thinking about adopting Otilia, he receives a letter (obviously written by Stănică) telling him that if he adopts her, people will think he's actually sleeping with her. Their eldest daughter Olimpia scandalously had a child out of wedlock with an opportunistic moocher who blackmailed her parents for her dowry. He never creates anything original, and has a very precise way in which he wants to work and study, becoming frustrated when Felix suggests they try something new. Wicked Step Mother: Aglae is Costache's sister, but she plays this role toward Otilia, whom she sees as an intruder and a threat to her children's inheritance.Change country: -Select- Afghanistan Albania Algeria American Samoa Andorra Angola Anguilla Antigua and Barbuda Argentina Armenia Aruba Australia Austria Azerbaijan Republic Bahamas Bahrain Bangladesh Barbados Belarus Belgium Belize Benin Bermuda Bhutan Bolivia Bosnia and Herzegovina Botswana Brazil British Virgin Islands Brunei Darussalam Bulgaria Burkina Faso Burundi Cambodia Cameroon Canada Cape Verde Islands Cayman Islands Central African Republic Chad Chile China Colombia Comoros Cook Islands Costa Rica Cyprus Czech Republic Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Democratic Republic of the Congo Denmark Djibouti Dominica Dominican Republic Ecuador Egypt El Salvador Equatorial Guinea Eritrea Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) Fiji Finland France French Guiana French Polynesia Gabon Republic Gambia Georgia Germany Ghana Gibraltar Greece Greenland Grenada Guadeloupe Guam Guatemala Guernsey Guinea Guinea-Bissau Guyana Haiti Honduras Hong Kong Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Iraq Ireland Israel Italy Jamaica Japan Jersey Jordan Kazakhstan Kenya Kiribati Kuwait Kyrgyzstan Laos Latvia Lebanon Lesotho Liberia Libya Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macau Macedonia Madagascar Malawi Malaysia Maldives Mali Malta Marshall Islands Martinique Mauritania Mauritius Mayotte Mexico Micronesia Moldova Monaco Mongolia Montenegro Montserrat Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nauru Nepal Netherlands Netherlands Antilles New Caledonia New Zealand Nicaragua Niger Nigeria Niue Norway Oman Pakistan Palau Panama Papua New Guinea Paraguay Peru Philippines Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Qatar Republic of Croatia Republic of the Congo Reunion Rwanda Saint Helena Saint Kitts-Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Pierre and Miquelon Saint Vincent and the Grenadines San Marino Saudi Arabia Senegal Serbia Seychelles Sierra Leone Singapore Slovakia Slovenia Solomon Islands Somalia South Africa South Korea Spain Sri Lanka Suriname Swaziland Sweden Switzerland Taiwan Tajikistan Tanzania Thailand Togo Tonga Trinidad and Tobago Tunisia Turkey Turkmenistan Turks and Caicos Islands Tuvalu Uganda United Arab Emirates United Kingdom United States Uruguay Uzbekistan Vanuatu Vatican City State Venezuela Vietnam Virgin Islands (U.

Costache suffers a heart attack, after which the whole Tulea family spends 2 days in the old man’s house completely ignoring him and his illness. In contrast to her, Felix is an ambitious intellectual, romantic and sensitive, but because he is totally inexperienced, he sees in Otilia the feminine ideal. After his father's death, Felix comes to stay with his uncle, Costache, who turnes out to be a miser, and with Costache's step-daughter, Otilia with whom Felix eventually falls in love with. He is mostly ignored by his wife Aglae, who is a tyrannical, smothering woman ruling the lives of her children with an iron fist. for the simple motif than it propose only few admirable performances and the novel seems be a pretext for a gallery of characters. But he realizes that he needs “ domnişoara Otilia, ea e micul viţiu sentimental” (Miss Otilia, she is my sentimental guilty pleasure), and the two eventually get married. She is constantly trying to tear her down, and fights bitterly against the idea of Costache adopting her. However, they divorce in the end because Pascalopol decides it's better for Otilia to live a free life.

Stănică is a complete jerkass who gives the reader a new reason to hate him with every scene he appears in, but it seems like he truly loves his family when he goes to visit his aging aunt for her birthday.

His Uncle Costake is reluctant to give him any of his money (suggesting that he borrow some) and even”borrows” some money from Felix. I Was Quite a Looker: According to Otilia, Simion used to have a very adventurous life, with scandals and many love affairs. Everyone in the family waits for Costache's death and says that instead of paralyzing, he had better die. While abortion still carries a stigma today, having premarital sex wouldn't destroy somebody's reputation.

Her obsession engulfed her entire personality, to the point where she can't think about anything else, and doesn't really seem to have healthy interests.Stănică not marrying Olimpia after fathering a child with her was seen as scandalous and shameful for the family. Aglae seems interested in the future of the host’s daughter, in hope she will marry her with Titi, while Felix seems more and more ashamed of Georgeta’s behavior.
