Matt, I am pretty certain that the sole plate is genuine and in good condition, because when we got our Dyson Dc04 silver lime brand new in 2011 ( made in 2005), we tried it, and it was actually sticking to the floor, because it is the type of sole plate which is older, and does not have the struts which stick out, it has only one strut (excluding the belt cover) and the one on my DC14 is the same, but seals better due to more suction and I have added a pic below of the DC14 sole plate. Now yours may have a white/grey filter above the motor, the purple filter in this kit replaces that filter and offers a better filtration.
