Our Island Spirit from the Outer Hebrides has been chosen for distribution by a UK-wide supermarket. Born from a desire to move home to the Outer Hebrides in the far North West of Scotland, and build something that will evoke the community spirit, founders Katie and Michael Morrison started developing the plans for a Gin and Whisky Distillery. The first batch of gin was distilled in August 2017 and the distillery will be releasing some island whisky in the near future.

The Barra Atlantic Island Dark Rum has been infused with a variety of botanicals, including carrageen seaweed, coconut, cardamom, and orange. A 15-year-old Glenallachie single malt, matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks, creating a smooth, rich character. Aromas of raisins, butterscotch and sweet spices fill the nose, and the palate offers notes of dark chocolate, orange peel, banana, raisins and caramel. The aroma carries the presence of coconut and clove to start, shortly followed by a crisp maritime freshness. Barra Island Dark Rum is rich and full of island maritime notes and flavour by utilising the key botanical, carrageen seaweed, which the brand is famed for, hand-harvested from the shores of Barra.

The flavours described include coconut and brown sugar, which gives a sweet and tropical taste profile. This is followed on the palate with a depth of coconut and brown sugar enhancement, with a clean and dry presence, leading to a complex warmth of cardamom to finish.
