About this deal

Not quite sure the adjective ‘nerd’ pertains to me (I’m not going to dismiss it for lack of another word) but I have a difficult time reading history without knowing where the action is taking place. The consequence of the monasteries is of course one that provides revenue for a Kingdom suffering from not enough money. One can tell by reading Sir WSC’s words that he held a deep respect for the ruggedness of Andrew Jackson and that of Sam Houston. We would grade this set as “near fine” if not for some minor blistering of the Volume I upper front cover cloth. The reinforcement and constructive application of these common conceptions - upon which so much of 20th Century history hinged - would continue to the very end of Churchill's life and career.

Churchill began his history during his period in the political wilderness in the early 1930s but did not complete it until the latter 1950s, after his final retirement as Prime Minister. All the while, it was apparent that Colonists in America were learning how to thrive in a vast untamed wilderness with Native Americans or First Nation civilizations.

His accounting of my favorite battle “Agincourt” with King Henry V was wonderful read for me personally. This first edition is regarded as one of the most beautiful productions of Churchill's works, with tall red volumes and striking, illustrated dust jackets. After the war ended in 1945, Churchill was busy, first writing his history of that conflict and then as Prime Minister again between 1951 and 1955, so it was not until the mid-1950s, when Churchill was in his early eighties, that he was able to finish his work . First Editions, First Printings SIGNED by Winston Churchill on a letter written by Churchill laid into the first volume. S. first edition is certainly less stately in appearance, though in our opinion perhaps excessively maligned as being an unattractive edition.

The sole previous ownership mark in each volume confirms that this is a lifelong mated set; inked in a small, tidy hand on the front free endpaper recto of each volume is the same name, each dated in the year of publication.Another fascinating point is that by the time we move from King George I who could speak no English to his grandson George III we are witness Hanoverian methodology of the throne that is never quite authentic “British”. These include The American Civil War (1961), The Island Race (1964) , Heroes of History (1968), and Joan of Arc (1969). Begun during Churchill's 'wilderness years' when he was out of government, first published in 1956 after his leadership through the darkest days of WWII had cemented his place in history, and completed when Churchill was in his 80s, it remains to this day a compelling and vivid history" (Bloomsbury). The establishment of British Columbia is the Province connected by railway that assists this international agreement. A prolific author, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his own historical writings, "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values.

What one needs to keep in mind during the 21st century in reading this detail of heads being lopped off and people being disemboweled for reasons far away from our existence is that this was not the era of political parties – this would evolve much later; however, this was the time of patronage and clientage. A very personal association for Churchill and a marvelous multiple-signed set, even with the slightly later editions. S. and Canadian first editions of A History of the English-Speaking Peoples were published simultaneously. Handsomely bound in red half oasis morocco, with raised bands, gilt titles and further gilt 'lion rampant' decoration to the spines, and matching cloth over boards. The House of York (white rose) and House of Lancaster (red rose) warred and murdered hundreds of members of the royalty on both sides with one house taking the kingdom, then the other. Queen Elizabeth I was no different for her time; make no mistake this Queen was stronger than any King could have been following the death of King Henry VIII. This full, four-volume publisher's presentation set is near fine plus in very good plus dust jackets. This book ends with the last three chapters; one of which is entitled “Washington, Adams, and Jefferson”, “The War of 1812”; and, the last chapter of book 9, chapter 24 entitled “Elba and Waterloo. First Editions, First Printings of all four books in this four volume set with "First Published" statements on each copyright page.

We have a large supply of individual issues of this famous magazine series, all in very good condition. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Churchill's four volume epic, A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, was published between 1956 and 1958. The events of the Second World War, the major interruption in the writing process, had reconfirmed his belief in the "special relationship" between Britain and the United States. For their part, the Cossacks themselves and the Tsar forget the methodology employed that helped to kick Napoleon out of Moscow and so there are many sad stories that ensue – only the French seem to have updated their weaponry in the between years of war and Army in these years that followed Waterloo.
