I enjoyed elements of the art in this book, particularly the colors and the winding plants… however, something struck me as a bit off about the tone of the book. A companion book with a similar alliterative title, Songs for Our Sons, by this same writing/illustrating duo offers a comparable message to newborn sons.

The artwork is by turns whimsical, adventurous and energetic, addressing current issues such as climate change, Pride and the comparative importance of inner and outer beauty. I would rather have liked to see a book in the children’s own voices, encouraging them to dream, to speak, to be.
