It takes centuries for a peat bog to regenerate not to mention the carbon dioxide dispatched on its not so merrily way. I asked one of the Italians to find a receptacle for them and all he could locate was a large pyrex glass oven dish so I put the ashes into that and asked him to place it outside the kitchen door. Can be mixed with wood or coal or used by themselves on Log and Coal fires, open stoves, fire pits, Chimineas, Burners and BBQ's. Unlike any other solid fuel, our briquettes release almost no pollution and produce long-lasting heat for your home.

I put one on last night at 00:00 (on the remenants of a log ) and it was still warm at 10am this morning , keeping the morning chill out of the kitchen. They are made from peat which is milled, dried and then pressed under high pressure to make a solid rectangular briquette. Great tip about raking the ash before bed to try and cool it off - we may have to purchase a non-flamable bucket for our embers so we can scoop them out and then have peat multiple days in a row - so looking forward to that scent! Anyway, back to peat and plants, one problem I may have is in re-hydrating them, they are surprisingly heavy and the one that I put in some rainwater is still obstinately briquette shaped in the bottom of the bucket !

Its wonderful aroma is instantly recognizable, and its long burning properties and steady heat mean that it is still highly in demand as a fuel product. Briquettes produce a lot of fine, white ash which tends to act like an insulating blanket on the embers and can easily still be hot the next afternoon. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Perhaps my memory is not serving me right but how would you guys compare the smell of burning turf and the smell of burning briquettes? Our peat is all sourced from Ireland and is from an area where there are open marsh lands that produce some of the best peat in the UK. Briquettes have been made here since the mid-19th century, though production ramped up to counter fuel shortages after the Second World War. They mention that it smells really nice, produces enough heat to keep them comfy and that it's easy to use. They are very easy to use and clean, with low sulfur emissions and can be burned alone or combinef with other fuels.

Apart from the fact that they're quite heavy, briquettes are fuel and you may have difficulties with both airport security and customs. Not sure about Cornwall ( a bit outside the ken of our local TV ) but Dorset, Devon and South Somerset got a bit of a battering. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. With their long, slow burn and lovely aroma, they’ll give you all the warmth you need in your hearth—no matter what type of fireplace or stove you have.

Handle them gently, as Tapl says, there is a lot of fine ash which floats around - and you will only take them outside in an uncovered container once! Unfortunately due to the smoke that is given off this type of fuel they are not allowed in all areas so it is advised to check if you live in a smoke controlled are before you make a purchase.

From there the only additional step in the process is to compress them into briquette shapes usable for your home stove or fire.

Occasionally, deliveries can be taken onto the driveway if it is a flat concrete / tarmac surface with no gradient. From a more scientific view point, burning peat is a low sulphur alternative to burning logs or coal and provides a superb heat output and a long lasting burn.
