About this deal

According to Geekbench 5, the S20 Plus was one of the most powerful smartphones on the market at the time, with a multi-core CPU score of 3,034 with the Snapdragon 865 (2774 with Exynos 990) that beat most other phones while, not surprisingly, coming up short of the S20 Ultra, which scored 3,286, and also trailing the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which scored 3,424. However, when it comes to day-to-day performance you're unlikely to notice significant performance differences between similarly-priced flagship rivals. The 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, while the 4G version uses Samsung’s own Exynos 990. Both are top-end chipsets (while there is a 865 Plus, it’s more a gaming-oriented upgrade), but we’ve found that Snapdragon 8-series processors typically outperform their Exynos counterparts. Samsung has made some important steps forward with the camera setup on the Galaxy S20 when you compare it to the Galaxy S10, but not all of the improvements are reflected in the stats you see in the spec list. If you’ve read our Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review then you’ll know we weren’t that impressed with its battery life, especially when you consider the size of the phone. I’m a little more accepting of the middling endurance of the S20 since smaller phones have smaller batteries (4000mAh here vs 5000mAh on the Ultra). When you’re not using the screen, battery performance is better. An hour of music streaming consumed less juice than the Pixel 4 XL while leaving the phone unplugged overnight saw a drop of just 5% – pretty good for an Android phone.

Just like last year’s models, I actually prefer the smaller versions of Samsung’s handsets, as I feel they fit more comfortably in the hand. That’s not to say that the S20’s screen is small, however: 6.2in is still big enough to watch any Netflix TV show without having to push the screen up against your eyeballs. The Samsung Galaxy S20 series smartphones are still very capable for all kinds of use today. The main differences between all three models are the battery size, camera setup, display resolution and additional RAM the higher up the series you go. Out of the three models in the Samsung S20 series, the more complete (and more premium) S20 is naturally the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. With the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plusyou get a slightly better battery life and chip compared to the Samsung S20. The issue is that 120Hz display. I managed 90-120 minutes less screen-on time with this option enabled during my week with the phone than when it was set to 60Hz (about four hours). Keep things at 60Hz and FHD+ and you’ll easily make it through the day without much fuss. This is particularly pertinent when you’re mobile gaming as it allows for a more immersive experience and could even give you the edge over an opponent, but it makes everyday things like scrolling through your social media feeds look smoother too. At O2, we have a range of Android Tablets available on pay monthly plans or pay as you go. Choose from the latest devices including the new Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. This is a pretty ingenious solution for letting you capture both solo and group selfies without having multiple front-facing snappers, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see other companies adopt it. The main camera, which remains 12MP, has an f/1.8 aperture. That’s theoretically inferior to the S10’s f/1.5 + f/2.4 dual aperture, which changes to suit the lighting conditions with the ‘wider’ f/1.5 setting pulling in more light for improved low-light shots. The main camera has a large sensor, so it ‘sees’ light, and therefore color, better – snaps looked bright and punchy, with everything from blue skies to green plants looking bold. Samsung’s effective AI scene optimization likely has a hand here too, as that tweaks your images depending on what you’re pointing the camera at.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition comes with Android 10 built in, though you can now update it to Android 12. Before the Galaxy S20 FE’s launch, Samsung promised that future phones would get at least three years of Android updates, so you’ll definitely get Android 13, and perhaps beyond. As for the display’s general properties, expect much the same as from the S10 Plus, with a very clear and detailed picture when watching content up to 1440p resolution. Despite technically having a higher-resolution screen than the one on the iPhone 11 Pro Max, both that phone and the S20 Plus showed roughly the same picture when demoing, say, a 1440p video on YouTube– though the Apple phone’s screen does have a slight edge in contrast, showing high-contrast subjects (like a lizard in the sun) in greater clarity. The Galaxy S20 runs Android 10 as standard, with an upgrade to Android 11 now possible. Samsung’s own One UI is overlaid, so it’ll look different to the software you may have used on other Android phones that aren’t made by Samsung, but the design is attractive and it’s easy to use.The 8 Pro has an IP68 rating, meaning it is resistant against water when submerged at 6 metres for up to 30 minutes. Powering my European Galaxy S20 device is the Exynos 990 7nm chipset; US devices will get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. I’m not a huge fan of the split chipset approach since in previous years the Snapdragon version has performed better and offered improved battery life. So whether you're editing photos in Photoshop or Lightroom, or parachuting into your one-millionth round of PUBG, the Galaxy S20 Plus has the grunt to keep up. We tested it with media and games, and the phone handled everything without a problem – even when pumped up to 1440p resolution or 120Hz refresh rate, the phone didn’t heat up under pressure. With an IP68 rating, this device can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at 6 metres. It is also resistant to dust, splashes, and spills. User Available Memory : User memory is less than the total memory due to storage of the operating system and software used to operate the device features. Actual user memory will vary depending on the operator and may change after software upgrades are performed.

Of course, these new flagships can’t bend like the Galaxy Z Flip – unless you try very hard and don’t care about your warranty – but the basic Galaxy S20 costs the same as last year’s Galaxy S10. That makes it the cheapest of Samsung’s recent batch of phones, yet you might also be surprised to learn that it’s just as formidable. All phones go down in price over time though, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 is no exception - while Samsung still charges full price, other retailers often sell it at a discount.Yes, the S20 phones join several other late-2019 and 2020 models in adding the option to refresh the screen more frequently. Most phones operate at 60Hz (meaning the screen refreshes 60 times per second), but on the S20 Plus and its siblings you can opt to up this to 120Hz. The latest generation of mobile processing power has landed – enter the Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Processor. The Galaxy S23 Series can take your multitasking, gaming and photography to the next level. The worry-free battery will power you through. This review is based on our time with the Exynos 990 version of the phone. We’ve yet to fully test the Snapdragon 865 version of the S20, but we have tested the Galaxy S20 Plus running that chip and we had no complaints. That’s because we’re still in the early days of 5G, so don’t expect this expanded connectivity to be a major selling point this year as carriers build out their networks. In our New York City testing, we bounced through Verizon’s still-piecemeal mmWave 5G area, which provided impressive speeds when we didn’t accidentally step outside the coverage bubbles. That’s a debate to be held for another time, and I’m pretty impressed with all of the new stuff Samsung has brought to the table this year. These new phones feel like much more of an upgrade than ever before and since the Galaxy S20 is the cheapest of the bunch, it earns my recommendation more so than the rest.

Take breathtaking images every time thanks to the triple rear camera set-up. Featuring three advanced lenses: 50MP Wide + Folded 48MP Tele + 48MP Ultra-Wide Main Camera. Snap a sharp selfie when you need it most using the 10.5MP front camera. Shoot high-quality scenes thanks to 4k and 60fps video shooting capabilities. Under the hood is a powerful chipset, either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 (where you live will determine which you’ll get) as well as either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, depending on whether you buy the 4G or 5G phone. And some people will only be able to buy the 5G phone – you can read on below to find out which versions are available in your region.Yes, the S20 Plus has gotten a price bump over the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, presumably due to the added 5G compatibility. It pushes the phone to new heights of flagship prices, which is frustrating – especially given the limited availability of the cheaper 4G model, and notably the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus actually has a lower launch price. The Night mode here is particularly useful, as it utilizes the main camera’s large sensor to take in lots of light in low-light settings. It’s pretty easy to use, as you don’t have to hold the phone still for too long, as some night modes require you to do, and the resulting pictures are pretty well-lit.
