About this deal

Today, speedcubing is quite popular, so there are many manufacturers and brands – and in most cases, the best manufacturers come from China, where speedcubing is very widespread among all generations. It has both enthralled and tormented generations, allowing some to grandstand in the playground while others are forced to admit defeat in the face of a seemingly intractable puzzle. Most users believe that magnetic speedcubes can somewhat improve the performance – because they affect the position of the cube they hold in a flat position making it easier to rotate the components of the cube.

At first I thought this was going to be lame because it's just a Square-1 with spicy corners, but now I realize that there's no limit to what you can imagine with this cube! Through using a fused deposition printer, and pausing the print at certain layers, it’s possible to embed the magnets inside the part during the printing process. At the time of writing this review, I currently hold the world best for gigaminx with a 5:07 single. The design is a simple split-piece with primary tracks/feet for the edges and corners, respectively, and the center pieces are primary. Yes, that’s right – [Tom]’s cube eschews the traditional rotating and sliding mechanism of the original cube, instead replacing it all with magnets. The final cube allows both regular Rubik’s cube movements, but also allows for the player to cheat and reassemble it without having to throw it forcefully against the wall first like the original toy.
