About this deal

Since the games are licensed to Stadia and not a platform like Steam or Origin, the location you’re in matters. That’s not true for other platforms where you can still access, say, your U.S. Steam account through the cloud gaming server. The Verdict Destiny 2 was rough, which is strange, given that it looked better than Tomb Raider. Although the movement felt responsive, the moment we fired a gun, everything fell apart. There are three factors when firing a gun in Destiny 2 with Stadia: the vibration of the controller, the on-screen animation and the sound. On a 150Mbps hard-wired connection, Stadia is amazing - it’s like playing a game stored locally on your PC.

At one time, you could only access Stadia through a Stadia Pro subscription, but that requirement has since been lifted. You're now allowed to use Stadia for free. In fact we even saw free demos periodically that you can try at no cost. Graphical quality via the Chromecast Ultra is generally strong but can vary, and seems almost completely separate from the control lag. Destiny 2 and Mortal Kombat 11 look fairly clear, but occasionally experience a dip in detail or develop artifacts, similar to playing in a Chrome tab. Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks surprisingly excellent, with the High Resolution mode indeed pushing the game to what appears to be a sharp 4K, and the High Framerate mode looking like a very smooth 60 frames per second. As with the Tomb Raider games on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, you need to choose between those modes on Stadia; there is no catchall 4K60 mode. The Google Stadia Is A Good Product And Is Ok For It's Price However It Does Get Warm Now And Then But That Is Because Of The People Who Made The Product/Item. Also The Games Or Options On The Stadia Are Sort Of Limited Due To Only Being A Bit Of Games Available On There To Be Playable. Google plans to add wireless support for the Stadia controller on other devices besides the Chromecast Ultra in early 2020. If you use a compatible Bluetooth controller to play games on Stadia, they currently work wirelessly. Before getting to the hardware, let’s talk about Stadia as a service. There are two hardware bundles: Founder’s Edition and Premier Edition. What do you think of Stadia? Are you going to buy the Premiere Edition or wait until Base launches? Let us know in the comments below and, as always, thanks for reading. Stadia FAQ Stadia is not like other cloud gaming platforms in that it doesn’t integrate with DRMs like Steam or Origin. Rather than bringing an existing library of games, as you would with Shadow (read our Shadow review and Google Stadia vs Shadow comparison), Stadia is much more akin to a service like PlayStation Now, where the library of games is curated for you (read our PlayStation Now review).

Google Stadia is the name of Google's former game-streaming service, as well as the name of the storefront from which you’ll buy games. Anything you bought was yours to keep, and you'd likely have paid full price for all the games you'd find on the Stadia store. However, if you're already invested in Stadia, any existing games you own will no longer be accessible. Google Stadia slowly added in the features it promised at launch. For example, the service rolled out direct streaming to YouTube via YouTube Gaming. For streamers, Stadia held real potential as a way to unify the gaming and streaming platform - and that in itself was pretty exciting. It’s a solid alternative to a gaming PC, but doesn’t provide as great an experience on a TV or with a controller. It also doesn’t support all PC games, and there’s no guarantee that a publisher won’t pull support from the platform in the future. The Stadia Premiere Edition will cost €129.00 in Europe, with UK, US, and CAD pricing to be announced once the Founders Edition bundle sells out in those territories. To secure yourself the bundle, you'll want to head over to the Google Store. As for what’s in the box, that’s it. Google includes a short setup manual but no other documentation. Seeing how Stadia is a new-ish concept and likely the first introduction for most people to cloud gaming, some additional documentation on what’s supported and what isn’t would be nice. Setting Up Stadia Stadia was announced with a long list of features, including family sharing, an in-depth achievement system and 4K/HDR gaming on PC. However, upon launch, most of those features are missing, making Stadia feel like it’s in beta rather than fully released.
